It has been a busy start to September so far. With over a dozen hedgehogs being admitted into our care. 🦔🐾

🤎 Many are suffering from nasty skin diseases or internal parasites, whereas others are assessed to be too small or underweight to be alone.

🦔✨️ Some hoglets are born too late in the season and can struggle to survive if mum decides to move on when the weather changes or sadly something has happened to her to cause hoglets to be left alone.

🏨 This is just the start of the seasonal influx of patients. We anticipate supporting over a hundred hedgehogs over the coming weeks and months. We are grateful for your continued generosity to help care for these at their time of need 🙏

Why do our tawny owlets look so sad 😞

🦉 Many of our summer owlets have been released already with just a few still remaining. They are now all in outside flight aviaries with lots of food and enrichment. They are in the final stages of rehabilitation back into the wild.

😢 So why do they look so glum?

🤎🪶 At this age they haven't quite developed their full plumage and still have their fluffy juvenile feathers. The feather tracts around their big dark eyes slope downward, creating a droopy, sad expression.The shadows and dark patches near the beak also emphasise a downturned line, which creates a sad appearance

🙏 We hope they will look a bit happier when they are released very soon

We are really pleased that some of our summer fox cub admissions are all grown up and will soon be on their way to being released. 🤎🦊

🤎 Our fox pen is full of interesting obstacles for foxes to jump, climb and explore. This enrichment is essential for them to build up strength and learn skills that will hopefully help them thrive and survive in the wild.

🦊 Many of our foxes were brought to us as very young cubs, some even had their eyes closed, so have never experienced the unimaginable challenges of the outside world.

✨️🌳 Foxes are responsibly soft released on pre-approved land from landowners giving the foxes the best chance in the first stages of their return to the wild again.

This young collared dove is recovering after being found grounded and wet through following the recent heavy rainfall. 🕊

🌧💔 Birds are struggling with the sudden change in extreme weather, with pigeons and doves being the hardest hit.

🪺 Pigeons and doves can have multiple broods all year round so many of these young birds are being knocked from the tree top nests. For the newly fledged birds they are battling heavy rain which can impact their ability to fly if their feathers are not fully developed yet

🏨✨️ This little dove is being warmed up in our incubator and eating well.
