🗓️ A week today, on Tuesday 15 September, we will host the first in a series of five free Stay and Play sessions at The Lantern, Shrewsbury.

Here's what you need to know:
✏️ Open to parents and carers with their children aged 3 to 4
✏️ Enjoy fun play activities and learn the small things you can do at home to make a big difference to your child's development
✏️ Boost your confidence and share experience with group leaders and other parents
✏️ You don't have to attend all five sessions (though it's great if you can!) - try one if you can only make one

Free Stay and Play sessions based on PEEP Learning Together will take place on Tuesday mornings from 15th September to 13th October (five sessions), 10am to 11.30am, and are open to everyone. To find out more and book a free place for you and your child, go to: https://orlo.uk/tiUyi

Visitors are invited to discover some of the finest contemporary art, craft and design being produced in Shropshire as DRAWN Contemporary Fair returns to Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery this November.

Taking place on Saturday 21 November (10am to 4pm) and Sunday 22 November (11am to 4pm), DRAWN is a carefully curated fair showcasing exceptional work from professional artists, designer-makers and contemporary craftspeople.

🌊 New flood sensor installed in Pentre

People living in Pentre will benefit from new technology designed to improve flood monitoring and provide better information during periods of high water. A new sensor has been installed near the River Severn, providing real-time water level data that can be monitored remotely, helping local people track changing water levels more effectively, reducing the need for people to carry out manual checks in severe weather and helping communities respond more safely and quickly when flooding occurs.

The project has been delivered through the River Severn Partnership Advanced Wireless Innovation Region (RSPAWIR), which is using advanced wireless technology to support public services, agri-tech and water management across the River Severn catchment.

From 24 August to 6 September our teams repaired a further 1364 potholes across Shropshire.

❗This makes a total of 26,940 potholes repaired since the beginning of the year.

More than 4,400 children across Shropshire benefited from Bikeability cycle training in the year 2025/26 year thanks to Active Travel England funding secured by the council.

ℹ️ Bikeability forms a key part of our commitment to road safety education and is delivered by Learn Cycling on our behalf.

Between April 2025 and March 2026:

✅ 2,342 Year 6 pupils completed Bikeability Level 1 and Level 2 training, helping them develop the skills and confidence needed to cycle safely on local roads.
✅ 273 pupils received Bikeability Level 3 training to further develop their cycling competence and independence.
✅ 997 children received Learn to Ride training
✅ 807 children received balance bike training, helping to develop cycling skills from an early age.

❤️ Thank you to our schools, training providers and partners for helping us deliver this successful programme – and well done to all the children who took part in the training.

Newport Road and Bridgewater Street roundabout, Whitchurch are to be resurfaced from Monday 21 to Friday 25 September.

🚧 Work will be carried out from 9.30am to 2.45pm each day. During these times a full road closure will be in place.

During the closures access to the work areas will be maintained for the following:

▶️ Residents living within the closure, when safe to do so.
▶️ Any businesses located within the closure, when safe.
▶️ Pedestrians, dismounted cyclists and equestrians.
▶️ Emergency vehicles (blue light calls).

For all other traffic a signed diversion will be place. Depending on their vehicle type, road users may be able to choose an alternative diversion route.

People are asked to ensure vehicles are not parked on the road whilst the work is in progress.

👷‍♂️ Work will be carried out by Kier Infrastructure on behalf of Shropshire Council.

This year more than 90 stretches of road across Shropshire are being resurfaced by Shropshire Council, and more than 70 have been surface dressed.

Sitka Drive on Shrewsbury Business Park is to be resurfaced overnight from Monday 21 to Saturday 26 September.

🚧 Work will be carried out from 7pm to 6am each night. During these times a full road closure will be in place.

10 September 2026 is World Su***de Prevention Day. To mark the day, we are hosting a free one-hour online webinar on September 10th from 10 - 11am, exploring the realities of su***de, its impact on people, families and communities, and what we can all do to help prevent it.

The session will include:

- Current insights into su***de and self-harm.

- Understanding who may be at increased risk.

- Challenging stigma and encouraging supportive conversations.

- Practical actions we can all take to help.

- Information about the Orange Button Community Scheme and free su***de prevention training available across Shropshire.
