What Do We Look After?

Did you know that our team cares for a wide range of public open spaces across the parish, helping to keep Shrewsbury looking its best all year round?

From parks and recreation grounds to green spaces, play areas, wildlife habitats, floral displays and much more, our dedicated grounds maintenance team works hard behind the scenes to ensure these spaces remain clean, safe, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

These public open spaces are there for residents and visitors to enjoy, whether you’re taking a walk, exercising, spending time with family, or simply enjoying nature.

You might be surprised by just how much we look after!

Caring for Shrewsbury’s green spaces, today and for future generations.

We’re feeding the bees! 🌼

You may have noticed that some areas around Shrewsbury haven’t been mowed or cut recently. Don’t worry - this is intentional.

These areas have been left to encourage native perennial grasses and wildflowers that we have planted to grow, creating valuable habitats and food sources for bees, butterflies and other wildlife.

By allowing nature a little more space, we’re helping to support biodiversity, improve pollination and create healthier green spaces for both wildlife and people to enjoy.

Thank you for your patience as these areas flourish throughout the season. Sometimes, a little less mowing can make a big difference.

What does Shrewsbury Town Council look after?

Since taking on services such as street cleaning & public waste bins. We’re working every day to help keep Shrewsbury clean, welcoming and cared for.

Many services people see every day are delivered locally by Shrewsbury Town Council, while other key services remain the responsibility of Shropshire Council such as road maintenance & potholes.

This week we have unveiled our newest carpet bed celebrating 100 years of service by Rotary Club of Shrewsbury, the oldest Rotary club in Shropshire.

Created by Andy Jenks and Karl Jarvis from Shrewsbury Town Council’s Amenity Space Team, the intricate floral display features the Rotary emblem and commemorates the club’s milestone anniversary.

The carpet bed incorporates around 7,000 plants, including green and red alternanthera, with silver echeveria used to define the borders and create the lettering within the design.

The display has been carefully planned and now takes pride of place within the castle grounds for residents and visitors to enjoy throughout the summer.

THIS SATURDAY - Porthywaen Silver Band from 2pm

Join us for a FREE musical afternoon in the picturesque Quarry Park bandstand.

The Porthywaen Silver Band is delighted to return to the Quarry for the 2026 Summer of Music, carrying with them a proud legacy of local music-making. Having celebrated their 90th anniversary in 2024, the band remains a vibrant part of the community’s cultural fabric. As a non-contesting ensemble, they focus purely on the joy of performance and the camaraderie of their members, ensuring that the rich tradition of British brass music continues to thrive in Porthywaen and beyond for generations to come.

For this year’s performance, the band has prepared a diverse and uplifting program designed to delight listeners of all ages. Audience members can look forward to a melodic journey from West End musical highlights, to popular contemporary hits, all delivered with the warm, rich tones unique to a brass ensemble. With a repertoire centered on fun and familiarity, the Porthywaen Silver Band is eager to provide the perfect soundtrack for a relaxing summer afternoon in the heart of the Quarry.
