Summary of highlights from last night’s STC meeting,
By Cllr Dean Stenner 02/06/26 Shotton West Ward,
I signed off my claim form for expenses and again declined them, my allowance will be retained my STC and used for good causes within the community along with other councillors allowances,
Public Speaking
Jane & Chris from Rivertown church spoke & provided an update on the church renovation and services offered,
The church will relocate with no disruption to services to a temporary site at former Bryn Tirion School just across the road, the target date for the move is 14th June and will be for approx. 10 months whilst the “hope on the high street” project is carried out,
You can read an update and view plans on their website here: www.https://rivertown.org.uk
Town Maintenance
It was noted that where potholes have been repaired on Clwyd St the job is good even though communicating the plan to residents wasn’t so good,
The cameras which were promised to STC to install locally to catch fly tipping and other offences have not been located as yet!
I raised the issue of missed recycling collections due to route changes,
Asda lighting is still out and our attempts to communicate with them regarding repair has not been responded to,
Weeds are becoming an issue on paths again and all councillors have reported issues,
Fly tipping yet again took ma significant time to discuss, Cllr Mike Evans showed a selection of fly tip photos from the area which were very concerning,
Police matters
I reported specific issues which affect our ward, specifically: King George street and adjoining roads which suffer constant speeding cars, inconsiderate illegal parking & driving during school run time, & drivers driving the wrong way on one way sections, Also that parking on paths and causing an illegal obstruction is becoming un policed and appears to no longer enforced, I have requested police carry out visits to the areas effected and enforce the offences before there is an incident.
All other councillors had reported similar issues in their areas.
Battery powered bikes and scooters also were raised and Police said it was difficult to enforce from a police car, it was suggested that more beat walking coverage and a stop & education approach may be a solution,
High Street Improvement plan
Again, a lack of timely communication was raised regarding road closure and traffic control,
The project is expected to run beyond the original schedule into September 2026.
Improved updates were requested.
County councillors confirmed that no compensation will be offered to business effected by the road works.
