Update on roadworks..

The works on the new layby at Victoria Road will be completed this week and the road reopened.

The next phase of work will re-start on Thursday 4th June on Chester Road between the junctions of Plymouth Street and King George Street.

This work will be carried out under two way traffic lights.

When work is completed on one side of the road the traffic management will then be swapped to allow works to begin on the other side of the road between these junctions.

Summary of highlights from last night’s STC meeting,

By Cllr Dean Stenner 02/06/26 Shotton West Ward,

I signed off my claim form for expenses and again declined them, my allowance will be retained my STC and used for good causes within the community along with other councillors allowances,

Public Speaking
Jane & Chris from Rivertown church spoke & provided an update on the church renovation and services offered,
The church will relocate with no disruption to services to a temporary site at former Bryn Tirion School just across the road, the target date for the move is 14th June and will be for approx. 10 months whilst the “hope on the high street” project is carried out,
You can read an update and view plans on their website here: www.https://rivertown.org.uk

Town Maintenance
It was noted that where potholes have been repaired on Clwyd St the job is good even though communicating the plan to residents wasn’t so good,
The cameras which were promised to STC to install locally to catch fly tipping and other offences have not been located as yet!
I raised the issue of missed recycling collections due to route changes,
Asda lighting is still out and our attempts to communicate with them regarding repair has not been responded to,
Weeds are becoming an issue on paths again and all councillors have reported issues,
Fly tipping yet again took ma significant time to discuss, Cllr Mike Evans showed a selection of fly tip photos from the area which were very concerning,

Police matters
I reported specific issues which affect our ward, specifically: King George street and adjoining roads which suffer constant speeding cars, inconsiderate illegal parking & driving during school run time, & drivers driving the wrong way on one way sections, Also that parking on paths and causing an illegal obstruction is becoming un policed and appears to no longer enforced, I have requested police carry out visits to the areas effected and enforce the offences before there is an incident.
All other councillors had reported similar issues in their areas.
Battery powered bikes and scooters also were raised and Police said it was difficult to enforce from a police car, it was suggested that more beat walking coverage and a stop & education approach may be a solution,

High Street Improvement plan
Again, a lack of timely communication was raised regarding road closure and traffic control,
The project is expected to run beyond the original schedule into September 2026.
Improved updates were requested.
County councillors confirmed that no compensation will be offered to business effected by the road works.

02/06/2026

During the STC monthly meeting last night, County Councillors reported that there will be no financial compensation offered to shop keepers adversely affected by the ongoing roadworks.

Our local businesses are incredibly important to our community and we should do our best to continue to support and shop locally whenever possible.

Update today from FCC on roadworks.

Good Morning

As part of the ongoing highway improvement works we will be re-aligning the existing kerb line on King Edward St to allow larger vehicles i.e. buses and brewery delivery vehicle

to take the corner at the rear of the Clwyd pub without running onto the footway.

The start date for this work will be Monday 18th May to Friday 22nd May.

To facilitate the works, a road closure at King Edward St and diversion route will be in place to ensure the safety of the workforce engaged in this operation, and highway users.

The one way system from King Edward Street to Alexander Street running alongside Weatherspoon’s will be temporarily suspended allowing the road to be used for two way traffic.

As part of these works a section of highway will be resurfaced on King Edward Street, this work will take place on the 21st May between 10am and 3pm.

There will be no temporary traffic lights on Chester Road for this week.

I have deliverred letter to the residents and businesses directly affected by these works.

Update on roadworks.

The entrance into Charmleys Lane car park has now been reopened this morning.

The road surface in front of the new kerbline is temporary and will be replaced with new permanent material when the full width of Chester Road is resurfaced later on in the scheme.

Two way traffic lights will be repositioned from tomorrow from the pedestrian crossing outside Boots to King George Street junction to allow removal and replacement of street furniture in this next phase of works.

Please support our local shops whilst we still have them.

The roadworks are having a terrible knock on effect for traders on the high street.

I've been contacted by shop keepers on the High street who are rightly concerned about the disruption and adverse effect on trading these works are causing.

Whilst the work is going on we should all try our best to support our valuable local shops who have no choice but to try and ride out the disruption until the works are completed.

Throughout this process the scheduling and planning issues have been raised constantly at our meetings.

We will seek further updates from FCC at the next meeting and share any information we have. But it's been challenging to get meaningful updates.

In the meantime please continue to support our local traders.
Thanks

I've just sent a message to street scene to request they reinspect the dip in the road close to the two electrical excavations and also check out the water build up in one of the trenches as it looks like a section of pipe is missing running to the sewer main in King George St.
We don't want that being filled in unless it's repaired as we will end up with another sink hole.
