Stratford Time Bank

Stratford Time Bank is a community skill sharing group for Stratford Upon Avon district. Give your time in hours doing what you choose to offer.

That time can then be withdrawn to use the skills and services offered by other members Time Banks reward people for the ordinary, neighbourly help they give to people around them. For every hour that a person gives to helping someone, or doing community work, they earn one ‘time credit’ which can then be spent receiving an hour’s help in return. Anyone can apply to become a member of the Time Bank. The Time Bank is run by a Time Broker, who interviews every applicant to see what they can offer and how they might benefit. Everyone is asked to provide references - those wishing to work with children or vulnerable adults are police checked. Details go on the Time Bank database. When someone needs help, they contact the Time Broker who takes the details and searches through the database for the most appropriate person to provide the service. A specialised computer program records the time credits earned and spent, and regular statements are sent out to members. Members can also donate credits to friends or to the ‘community pot’ which can be drawn on to support those who have more needs.

Between the cost of living and Christmas things can feel a bit tight for everyone. Timebanking trades skills rather than money. Everyone has skills, things they enjoy doing and everyone has things that they are less enthusiastic about doing. By working together we can build a happier, supportive community for everyone.
