Stratford Time Bank

Stratford Time Bank Stratford Time Bank was a community skill sharing group for Stratford Upon Avon district. It ran from January 2014 to April 2026, when it closed.

Many thanks to all who participated and supported it over the years. Time Banks reward people for the ordinary, neighbourly help they give to people around them. For every hour that a person gives to helping someone, or doing community work, they earn one ‘time credit’ which can then be spent receiving an hour’s help in return. One hour’s help given equals one hour’s help received, no matter what the task. Everyone’s time is valued equally and everyone can give to and benefit from the scheme. How it works
Anyone can apply to become a member of the Time Bank. The Time Bank is run by a Time Broker, who interviews every applicant to see what they can offer and how they might benefit. Everyone is asked to provide references - those wishing to work with children or vulnerable adults are police checked. Details go on the Time Bank database. When someone needs help, they contact the Time Broker who takes the details and searches through the database for the most appropriate person to provide the service. A specialised computer program records the time credits earned and spent, and regular statements are sent out to members. Members can also donate credits to friends or to the ‘community pot’ which can be drawn on to support those who have more needs.
