The Free University of Sheffield

The Free University of Sheffield We're an activist group campaigning for free, accessible and liberated education, democratically controlled by students and workers.

We organise on campus and beyond, through direct action, open debate and movement building.

The extension eviction ban is welcome news, and wouldn’t have happened without the pressure of organised tenants, but the threat of a surge of evictions is far from gone...

We need to use the coming weeks and months to steel ourselves and our communities for the fight ahead. ACORN will be ready to act whenever the ban lifts, but we’ve got work to do.

We’re training up members of the community in Sheffield with the tools to stand up for each other collectively to resist evictions, protect our communities, and win.

Sign up to the Zoom link below and join us on Thursday at 6pm. 💪💪💪

Workers: when we organise, we win. 💪

🔥THE CAMPAIGN IS HOTTING UP🔥

Workers at Sheffield Students' Union are coming together with Unite NEYH to demand:
💵 living wage
😷 sick pay
🤝 secure contracts
🌙 unsociable hours pay

We are taking action - and we are winning.

This week we won full coronavirus sick pay for all casual staff. Now hundreds of Students’ Union workers are ready to form a union and take action - to win everything we deserve.

Sign the petition to show your support - and join Sheffield Needs A Pay Rise to win change in your own workplace ✊ : bit.ly/e4cpetition

We're back. And we're ready to do it all over again. ✊

Students and workers: join the climate strike tomorrow!

Uni of Sheffield students: there will be rally organised by Sheffield Students' Union on the SU Concourse at 10am

The main Sheffield march starts at 11am at Devonshire Green, marching to City Hall at noon where there will be a rally from 1-3pm.

Sheffield Youth Strike 4 Climate are organising an after-party at DINA Venue from 7pm. Please make it if you can! (tickets bit.ly/2kFutId)

Relying on consumer lifestyle changes and the good will of world leaders has failed. Only a mass movement in the streets, our workplaces, and our universities can create the system change necessary to prevent climate chaos.

The global climate strike tomorrow offers a starting point from which to seriously organise in workplaces and communities to destroy our current economic system and replace it with one run in the interests of people and the planet

Tomorrow won't really be a general strike, but that doesn't mean it won't be a building block for one down the line. This is the start of many such days of action: let's make each one bigger than the last.

DON'T MOURN for the planet, ORGANISE to save it!
