NEWS: Patrols stepped up after increase in burglary reports involving e-bikes
We have sadly seen a spike in burglary reports this week and are responding by stepping up patrols, engaging with our communities, and following all available lines of enquiry.
Over the past few days, we have received reports of offenders breaking into homes in the S8, S13 and S20 areas of Sheffield. Suspects are reported to have arrived and fled on e-bikes.
Yesterday (14 May) we received six reports which we are treating as linked.
In response, officers have been out on foot today in Old Park Road, Abbey Brook Drive and Westwick Road and we’re encouraging anyone who has concerns to speak to officers when they see them.
🗣️ Inspector Amy Mellor, of the South West Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “We recognise the unease a spike in burglaries can cause among communities and we’re working hard to progress investigations and find those responsible.
“Burglary is an incredibly invasive crime and I want to assure you that it won’t be tolerated in any part of Sheffield.
“Officers will be in the areas most affected by this recent spike throughout the weekend, so please approach them when you cross paths as they will be more than happy to answer questions or offer advice.
“As we look into these crimes, we’re particularly keen to hear from anyone who notices suspicious activity involving e-bikes.
“If you see something that concerns you or appears out of the ordinary, please report it to us by calling 101 or visiting our website. Remember to always dial 999 if a crime is in progress.”
