The Deputy Mayor unveiled Pride of the Birds this week, one of the Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity’s lion sculptures. 150 life-sized lions are currently on display across Sheffield at various landmarks and attractions, celebrating both creativity and community spirit.

The initiative is raising vital funds for a new Emergency Department at Sheffield Children’s Hospital, helping ensure children across the region receive the urgent care they need.

Kilvinder Vigurs said: “I’m incredibly proud to be born and bred in Yorkshire and to support such a meaningful cause. Initiatives like this are fun and can bring communities together by helping raise essential funds for Sheffield Children’s Hospital, ensuring young people across the county receive the best possible care.”

Helping you drivers to stay safe on our roads

We’ve teamed up with Barnsley Test Centre to support safer driving across the borough 🚗💛

As part of our Don’t Drive Daft campaign, safety packs have been donated to help share important information with drivers aged 17–24 as they pass their tests, encouraging safer habits behind the wheel and helping keep Barnsley’s roads safer for everyone.

Recruitment for SYP Special Constables is now open

VOLUNTEERS' WEEK: This week (1 - 7 June) is Volunteers' Week, an annual UK-wide campaign to celebrate and recognise the contributions of volunteers.

Here at SYP, we have lots of volunteers within the force, including our cadets, police support volunteers and special constables, who all play a key role in helping us as a force to deliver the best service we can and protect our communities.

As well as those who volunteer within the force, we also have staff members who volunteer outside of SYP for several organisations and charities.

We want to say a huge thank you to all of our volunteers who give their time within and outside of the force. The work you do does not go unnoticed 💙

If you're interested in volunteering with us, we've opened up applications for special constable recruitment. Special constables have the same power, uniform and responsibilities as regular, paid police officers but volunteer on a part-time basis.

If you're interested in the role, we also have two recruitment events coming up this week where you can speak to members of our special constabulary and find out more about what it's like to be a special constable. (You only need to attend one of these events and you do not need to register to attend. You are welcome to bring along a family member or friend if you wish).
