📣Announcing... Omaueze at the Visions festival afterparty!

Where: Zephyr's, Stag Works, 84 John St, Sheffield, S2 4QU

When: Saturday 19th September, 9pm - 2am

Over the past 5 years, Omaueze (Eze and Omašta) have pushed a combination of leftfield and global club sounds to Sheffield and beyond. With roots in Nigeria and Morocco, it’s a celebration of identity as much as it is an exploration of sound, built upon an array of genres including Grime, Kuduro, Amapiano and Footwork, and a shared love of atmosphere and energy.

The duo are also part of DJ collective and event series Club Rez, where their ethos remains consistent – bringing the underrepresented to the forefront. This journey has led to performances at No Bounds and Sounds from the Other City festivals, an international debut in Belgrade, and a Club Rez residency on Manchester’s Steam Radio.

📣Announcing... (How) Can Parents Be Activists?

This session will be an open discussion exploring some of the tensions, challenges, opportunities and joys of life on the front line of parenting for people who want to change the world.

What are the obstacles to raising the next generation of freedom fighters whilst maintaining our own socialist practices? How can we organise when we are too tired and overwhelmed to make it to meetings? How can the socialist movement better support parents to be activists?

We want the Visions festival to be accessible and a healthy space for all.

In each of the rooms, a number of seats will be earmarked as reserved for disabled participants and any other people who need them for access reasons, both at the front and back of the room. Please do not sit on these seats if you do not need to, however please feel free to use these seats if you do need to. Please note that not all disabilities are visible, and no one should be questioned for their use of these seats.

We encourage attendees to take a Covid test before attending. If you are exhibiting any symptoms of Covid, have been in prolonged contact recently with someone with Covid, or someone in your household has tested positive for Covid, please don’t come to the festival. We also ask that if you are showing symptoms of illness (e.g.coughing, sneezing, vomiting, fever) to please not come to the festival either - this helps our immunocompromised comrades stay safe.

We will provide hand sanitiser in every room, and masks will be available too from the front desk.

Carers or PAs who are supporting a ticketholder can attend the festival free of charge.

We want children and parents to be able to enjoy the Visions festival together, so have designed the event with families in mind.

The festival will feature:
⭐ free tickets for under-18s
⭐ play areas with toys, books and crafts
⭐ a kid-friendly session by Woodcraft Folk
⭐ a kid-friendly nature walk
⭐ a collective discussion on being an activist parent.

📣Announcing... Another Youth Group is Possible: Exploring the Power of Youth Movements from Woodcraft Folk to the Youth Climate Strikers!

This is a reflective workshop about power and young people led by the Woodcraft Folk. The session is open to everyone but we particularly invite young people and those who work with or are interested in children and young people to share their practice and experience.

We will look at how we organise youth groups, discuss how youth groups can be empowering and disempowering, and create a vision for what a truly liberatory youth group looks like.

📣Announcing... Radical History Walk!

This walking tour will scratch the surface of Sheffield's rich history of social struggle: Chartists and suffragists who fought for the vote, miners and steelworkers who built powerful trade unions, pioneering activists for LGBT equality, all the way through to striking migrant workers in the 21st century gig economy.

The tour is led by Edd Mustill, a Sheffield-based trade unionist, labour historian, and author of Britain's Revolutionary Summer, a new history of the 1926 General Strike.

Hear from three local activists — Maria Vasquez-Aguilar, Anahita Hosseini-Lewis and Jonny Feldman — with a wealth of experience in building international solidarity. They’ll draw on their personal experience to explore the key principles that underpin effective solidarity work, discuss the complexities and challenges of this work, and answer questions from the audience.

The session has been organised in partnership with South Yorkshire Migrant and Asylum Action Group, Chile Solidarity Network, and Sheffield Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Our capitalist society treats nature as a resource to exploit and perpetuates unequal access to wild nature. In this session, facilitators Kieran Boden and Heather Hunt will lead activities in a nearby pocket park that will connect us to nature and each other.

Together we will stimulate our imaginations for visions of a Sheffield with equal access to wild spaces where we appreciate our deep interdependence vital for surviving and thriving.

📣Announcing... Building Community Power in South Yorkshire!

Local polling and council election results have revealed the stark political divides that exist throughout South Yorkshire. In this session, we’ll hear from activists representing campaign groups that are attempting to bridge these divides and build working-class power in our communities.

We’ll learn about existing campaigns to improve living standards, how they might be replicated across our region, and action we can take to support them.

There’ll be opportunities to share you own experiences, ask questions, and get involved in campaigns.
