About Pen*stone Town Council:


Pen*stone Town Council is the successor body to the Pen*stone Urban District Council, which was abolished in the local government re-organisation of 1974. As such, the chair of Pen*stone Town Council keeps the title of Mayor of Pen*stone. In addition to chairing Town Council meetings, the Town Mayor carries out various civic duties during his/her year of office. A new Mayor is elected at the annual Town Council meeting each May. Our current Mayor is Cllr Andrew Millner; the Deputy Mayor is Cllr Gillian Millner. A list of past Pen*stone Mayors is on a plaque in the Main Hall of St Johns Community Centre. Pen*stone Town Council consists of 15 seats and covers four wards:

Pen*stone (6 seats)
Thurlstone inc. Millhouse Green (3 seats)
Hoylandswaine (2 seats)
Springvale & Cubley (4 seats)

Pen*stone Town Council is a minor authority, operating the Pen*stone Paramount, (used for cinema, theatre, and concert productions) and St Johnโ€™s Community Centre, which is a vital community resource. The Town Council has an important role in commenting on all local planning applications before they go to the Planning Officers in Barnsley.

Another wonderful day yesterday at Pen*stone Agricultural Show yesterday!๐Ÿ

So pleased the weather held despite the forecast and it was wonderful to see the show so busy once again. ๐ŸŒฆ๏ธ

There is always so much to do and I never quite feel like I have managed to see it all no matter how long I spend in each tent. ๐ŸŽช

The highlight of my day was choosing the winner of the Mayorโ€™s Trophy โ€“ this year from the Food Stall tent.๐Ÿ†๐Ÿฅ‡๐Ÿ’ฅ

There was a fantastic range of stalls with sweet and savoury food offerings and alcoholic and non alcoholic beverages. Some regular stall holders who had been coming to the show for years and also some first timers.๐Ÿฅฎ๐Ÿฐ๐Ÿง๐Ÿน๐Ÿป๐Ÿธ

It was incredibly hard to choose but I picked Rotherham based hot sauce company Chilli Charva. These lads know their products inside out and are a growing small business with a really professional presentation. Plus their sauces are delicious- I bought a hot honey which my daughter declared not hot enough! ๐ŸŒถ๏ธ๐Ÿ˜†๐Ÿ’ฅ
