After more than seven years as Officer Commanding, last night marked Sqn Ldr Matt Davisโ€™ final parade as OC of 366 Squadron RAF Air Cadets.

Mattโ€™s journey with the Squadron started long before taking command. Joining as a cadet at just 13 years old (the joining age back then), he progressed through the ranks at 366 all the way to Cadet Warrant Officer before later leaving the Squadron to become a Squadron Officer and Adjutant at 370 North Sheffield Squadron RAF Air Cadets Squadron.

In April 2019, Matt returned home to 366 as Officer Commanding - bringing with him the same passion, dedication and commitment that so many had seen throughout his RAFAC journey.

Since taking over in 2019, Matt has led the Squadron through some incredibly successful years. Under his leadership, countless cadets have achieved qualifications, attended camps and activities, progressed through the classification system, developed confidence and leadership skills, and created memories that will stay with them for life.

The Squadron also achieved significant success at Wing level during his tenure, receiving two consecutive Wing nominations for the Lees Trophy (the best Sqn in the entirety of the RAFAC), with one year progressing through to Regional selection - something the entire Squadron remains incredibly proud of.

More importantly, Matt has built a culture of professionalism, support and opportunity that has had a lasting impact on cadets, staff and the wider Squadron community alike.

Last nightโ€™s parade was a fitting way to mark the occasion, with cadets receiving certificates and recognition for achievements earned over recent months - something Matt has always championed and taken great pride in.

The Civilian Committee, staff and cadets each presented Matt with cards and gifts, all organised independently, which truly reflected the respect, appreciation and gratitude held for him across the Squadron.

Although Matt is stepping down as Officer Commanding, we are incredibly proud to see him moving on to a national RAFAC role at RIAT as Deputy Officer Commanding this year, before taking over as Officer Commanding RIAT following this yearโ€™s show. It is a fantastic achievement and thoroughly deserved.

As one chapter closes, another begins for 366 Squadron, with Fg Off Amy Binney formally taking over as Officer in Charge of the Squadron. We look forward to supporting Amy in her new role, and a separate post introducing her to the Squadron community will be shared shortly.

Thankfully, Matt is not leaving 366 entirely. He will remain with the Squadron in a supernumerary capacity and is already looking forward to getting back to delivering training and spending more time teaching cadets in the areas he enjoys most.

From everyone at 366 Squadron - staff, cadets and Civilian Committee - thank you for your years of service, leadership, commitment and dedication to the Squadron. Your influence on this unit and the people within it will not be forgotten.

Once 366, Always 366 ๐Ÿ’™

Fantastic to see such a successful weekend for Sector 6 at 362 Elm Tree Squadron ๐Ÿ‘

A huge congratulations to all the cadets from 366 Squadron and across the sector who took part - especially those who are now newly trained on the L144, and those who have achieved their Blue and Bronze Shot qualifications. A brilliant achievement and a real credit to the effort and commitment shown by everyone involved ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽฏ

A big thank you also goes to the staff and volunteers who made the weekend possible.

In particular, a special mention to Fg Off Dan Scholes from 366, who supported the training using his Skill at Arms Instructor (SAAI) and Short Range Conducting Officer (SRCO) qualifications to help deliver a safe and effective weekend of training.

Well done all - great to see the continued development and success across the sector! ๐Ÿ’™

Itโ€™s fantastic to see cadets from 366 Squadron stepping onto the piste and embracing the fast-paced, tactical world of fencing!

Fencing is a sport that demands agility, focus, discipline, and respect โ€” qualities that our cadets work hard to develop every week. From mastering footwork and perfecting their en garde stance to learning the importance of timing and strategy, they have shown determination and resilience throughout their training.

Taking part in fencing not only builds physical fitness, but also sharpens mental concentration and decision-making under pressure. Itโ€™s brilliant to watch our cadets challenge themselves, support one another, and grow in confidence with every bout.

A huge well done to everyone involved โ€” your commitment, sportsmanship, and willingness to try something new truly reflect the spirit of 366 Squadron. Weโ€™re incredibly proud of you all and look forward to seeing your skills continue to flourish on the piste! ๐Ÿคบ
