Volunteers filled a hole in the footpath near carr forge underpass today, then re-surfaced the horse hop near the horse paddock. We also cut back loads of overhanging branches. We heard and saw lots of buzzards overhead.

Two days improving the path and steps near the bracken patch this week. This path always gets really wet and muddy in winter, so we've raised it up by bringing lots of footpath material in. The wonderful volunteers did lots of wheelbarrowing. Can you find this path? (It's the second right off Stone Lane) What do you think to our work?

Following on from Ian Rotherham's visit to the Shire Brook Valley the other week, he's now written the following article about some of the ancient trees we have.

Ancient trees create a sense of place in Sheffield’s Shire Brook Valley That most people love old trees perhaps goes without saying, although we often don’t pause to think ‘why?’. Gnarled , old oak…

Is there anything these volunteers can't handle??? Amazing work today from our Wednesday volunteer team. We were preparing a path for surfacing next week, but unfortunately we can't get a digger in there to scrape the grass off (due to steps and a bridge), so we had to scrape it off by hand! Using spades we sorted it and can now go and rest our backs! We also cut back overhanging trees, scythed a meadow and cleared balsam. And hardly even got wet!
