Friends of Shanklin Community Library - FOSCL FOSCL's aims are to encourage support, promote and increase public awareness and carry out specific fundraising activities for Shanklin Community Library.

FOSCL is a group that has been formed by people who value the Library. Our aim is to promote and support the library so that it is able to function well within the Community it serves. Our goal is to ensure the healthy survival of this valuable service in the future and to enable everyone to have the right of access to books, computers and local information. FOSCL is open to everyone who values th

e library and wishes it not just to continue, but to improve and thrive in the years ahead. FOSCL is free to join and you may give as much or as little time to it as you wish. Regular FOSCL meetings are held and all members will be invited to contribute ideas on projects to enhance the library and ways of fundraising to support those projects. FOSCL social events will be included in the fundraising so it can also provide you with an opportunity to make friends within the Community. If your interested, drop into Shanklin Library.

Sandown Library will be screening FREE showings taking place at the library for the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth.

Every month from May to October Sandown Library will be screening film adaptations of Jane Austen's novels. Tickets for these screenings are free and can be collected from Sandown Library or you can ring the library on 402748 to reserve a ticket.

Tickets are only available from the first of the month for that month's film.

The dates and films are as follows:

Pride and Prejudice Saturday 24 May 1.45pm

Sense and Sensibility Saturday 28 June 1.45pm

Emma Saturday 26 July 1.45pm

Mansfield Park Saturday 30 August 1.45 pm

Friends of Sandown Library film for December to be shown on Friday 13 December at 7.00pm (doors 6.40pm) and Saturday 14 December at 1.45pm (doors 1.30pm) is ‘While you were sleeping’ starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman, certificate PG, running time 1 hour 40 mins. This is not a new film! It’s a very enjoyable Christmas film from 1995!

Chicago subway worker Lucy (Sandra Bullock) is infatuated by businessman Peter (Peter Gallagher), a commuter who regularly uses her station and who she only ever sees from a distance. One day, Peter is almost hit by a train, but Lucy manages to save him at the last moment; then, as she sits by his side while he lies unconscious in a hospital bed, his family arrive and mistake her for his new girlfriend. Happy to be welcomed into the home of her dream partner, Lucy tries to gather the strength to set the record straight, but the situation only becomes more complicated when she starts falling in love with Peter's brother Jack (Bill Pullman). Officers from South Wight Neighbourhood Police Team will be holding a Beat Surgery on Friday 1st Nov from 10.00 – 10.45 at Shanklin Post Office, 42 Regent Street .They will be available to offer any help or advice . You may have seen recently that Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary have launched a new initiative called Let's Talk, which you can also complete with them to let them know what your local issues are in your area.

This is a great opportunity to speak face to face to officers in an informal and relaxed environment no matter what your issue or question may be.
