The Walled Gardens at Croome Court: A Labour of Love by Chris & Karen Cronin
In 2000, Chris and Karen Cronin embarked on an extraordinary journey to restore one of Europe's largest Georgian walled gardens, nestled within the Croome Court estate. Dating back to the 16th century and once a part of the Coventry family estate, these magnificent gardens had fallen into a state of ruin—overgrown, aband
oned, and long forgotten. Despite warnings about the immense challenge ahead, Chris and Karen saw potential where others saw decay. Driven by passion and vision, they set out to revive the gardens and uncover the history hidden beneath the overgrowth. For over two decades, they dedicated themselves to meticulous restoration, preserving original features while breathing new life into the space. Today, The Walled Gardens have been beautifully restored and are open to the public on Saturday and Sunday from April to September, along with Bank Holidays, showcasing their natural beauty and rich history. The ongoing evolution of the gardens continues to reveal new treasures and stories, making every visit a unique experience. The Cronins' hard work, perseverance, and love for this special place ensure that its magic will be enjoyed for generations to come.
