As the days get shorter and darker, you may notice changes in your mood, energy or motivation.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) is a type of depression that can affect people during particular times of the year, often during autumn and winter.

If you’re finding things difficult, you don’t have to face it alone. 💙

At West Kent Mind, we’re here to support local people with their mental health and wellbeing.

☀️ Getting outside during daylight hours, staying connected with others and keeping a regular routine may help. But, if you’re struggling, reaching out for support can be an important first step.

We’re usually pretty good at noticing when something isn’t running right.
The warning light comes on.
The battery’s running low.
Something starts making a strange noise.

But when it’s us? We’re often much better at saying, “I’m fine” and carrying on.
If you’re feeling stressed, overwhelmed, low, anxious, stuck, or things simply don’t feel quite right, you don’t have to wait until you’re at breaking point to talk.

💬 West Kent Mind’s counselling service offers a safe, confidential and non-judgemental space to chat about whatever you’re facing.
No need to have the right words.
No need to know exactly what’s wrong.
And no need to “fix” everything on your own.

Sometimes, a conversation is a good place to start.

It's World Mental Health Day! Yesterday we set out to start 10,000 conversations across West Kent💙

When we first set ourselves the challenge of distributing 10,000 flyers and creating 10,000 opportunities for connection, we wondered if we might have been a little too ambitious.

But we did it!

Together, our staff, volunteers and incredible supporters took 10,000 opportunities for connection, conversation and support out into our communities.

And while we’ll be watching the numbers, QR scans, referrals and people finding their way to our services, yesterday was a powerful reminder that some of the most important impact can’t be captured on a spreadsheet.

It was the man walking his dog who told us he hadn’t spoken to anyone else all week.

The couple in Costa who watched our volunteers talking so passionately to people, came over to tell them how impressed they were, and ended up having an amazing conversation themselves.

The woman whose husband recently died, who is now thinking about volunteering.

The train driver finishing a night shift who hadn’t even known West Kent Mind existed.

That’s why those 10,000 conversations mattered.

Because somewhere amongst them might be someone who remembers our name six months from now when they desperately need support.

Someone who tells a friend about us.
Someone who decides to volunteer.
Someone who fundraises for us.
Or simply someone who feels a little less alone because another person stopped and spoke to them.

That’s the impact we can’t always measure. 💙

We’re incredibly proud of what we achieved yesterday, and incredibly grateful to everyone who helped make it happen. Thank you for being part of our campaign. But most importantly, there’s always time to start another conversation.

Ask someone how they really are. Take the time to listen. You never know how much that conversation might matter.

So, as we look beyond World Mental Health Day, there’s one question we’d like to leave you with: Who will you talk to today? 💙

💙 Are you ready to join the conversation?

This World Mental Health Day, we’re on a mission to start 10,000 conversations about mental health across our community.

You’ll spot us out and about across Sevenoaks, Tonbridge, Tunbridge Wells and the surrounding areas, encouraging people to talk, connect and help break down the stigma that still surrounds mental health.

Because every conversation matters.

A simple “How are you, really?” could be the conversation that helps someone feel less alone. And if just one person feels able to reach out and ask for help because of what we’re doing today, it will have been worth it. 💙

But we need your support.

🔵 Keep an eye out for our team in the community
Stop and have a conversation with us
Pick up one of our 10,000 flyers and help spread the message
Start your own conversation with a friend, colleague, neighbour or loved one.

Together, let’s get our community talking about mental health.

10,000 conversations. One community. Let’s start talking. 💙
