As it’s pride month I thought this was a timely reminder… I try very hard to make my courses inclusive… and no that’s not just me “being woke”. It’s something that’s vitally important to me, as someone who myself is not a white middle class neurotypical woman. Being inclusive means making antenatal education accessible to as many people as possible, meaning anyone who:

💜 identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community
💜 who is black, brown, Asian, mixed heritage (basically anyone who isn’t white)
💜 is neurodivergent, whether that’s autism, ADHD, Tourette’s, or any other neurodivergent condition
💜 is limited in terms of funds to pay for private antenatal classes

That doesn’t mean my course isn’t suitable for someone who IS a white middle class pregnant woman. And it doesn’t discriminate against anyone in this group. It simply means my course considers everyone and respects ALL birthing people!

If that’s the kind of antenatal education you’re looking for, come join me on next online PAY WHAT YOU CAN AFFORD course, or a 121 private courses. Go to www.better-birth.co.uk for more information!

It’s going to be 30c today! Tag your hot and sweaty pregnant friends in the comments! I can hear you all cursing this heat wave… 🥵

If you’re pregnant and suffering in the heat, here’s some top tips to keep you cool!

☀️ stick a bowl of ice in front of a fan to create your own cheap air conditioning

☀️ get those ice lollies out of the freezer! Make your own using your favourite juices or freeze home made smoothies!

☀️ if you’re 37 weeks or over, chill raspberry leaf tea in the fridge to sip on. Even better, freeze it in to ice lollies!

☀️ wear light cotton clothing, or nothing at all!

☀️ stay in the shade as much as possible

☀️ close the curtains to keep indoors cooler

☀️ keep your moisturiser and face spritz in the fridge to keep you feeling refreshed

What other tips have you used to keep cool in the scorching heat this summer?

I’m so sick of people being told not to eat or drink when they’re in labour! Swipe to see why this outdated policy is in place and why you may want to frankly ignore it!

Want to know what other outdated practices you may be subjected to during labour? www.better-birth.co.uk book a private 121 course.

I’m asked this one quite a lot in my taster sessions… When is the best time to start a Hypnobirthing course?

Ideally, the earlier the better. If you think about the lifetime of negative stories, images, and associations we have all built up subconsciously over the decades when it comes to birth, that’s a pretty strong neural pathway that has been made. Giving yourself time to practice and really reinforce those positive images and messages will give you a really good chance of thinking of birth as something positive, which can have a physical affect on labour.

That said, I have had clients start a course with me at 37 weeks, once they are on maternity leave and have the time to really focus on practice.

Some people start after their 12 week scan, some after their 20 week scan, some at 30 weeks or later after the reality of giving birth hits them!

I guess what I’m saying is, it’s never too late to start a Hypnobirthing course! Something is always going to be better than nothing.

If you’d like to book a course with me, DM me or drop me an email!. Visit www.better-birth.co.uk to book

I’ll keep shouting about this because it’s important! The big baby trial results may seem like they found that early induction before 38 weeks reduced chances of shoulder dystocia, there’s some important points to note! Swipe to read the findings (and the flaws!).

Yep you read that right! In a study looking at accuracy of VEs, clinicians only agreed on number of cm dilated 49.2% of the time! Not only that, 11% of the time they were disagreeing by 2cm or more! Why does that matter? Well, if you’re being told you “can’t” get in the pool until you’re 4cm dilated, a 2cm margin of error matters a lot!

Think carefully what good and harm a VE may cause, and don’t forget they’re not accurate, not a crystal ball, and certainly not compulsory!

You may have seen an article circulating which states 1830 inductions are needed to prevent one stillbirth, but the article actually refers to an earlier study which quoted even higher figures. The study looked at low risk pregnancies and the outcomes of induction of labour vs expectant management. Swipe to read the results.

Medical intervention and induction has a time and a place, but we’re in a reality where these procedures are being offered far too often, without proper information, and for reasons which are not backed by research or evidence. It’s so important to understand why it may be offered... this is why I wrote my induction quick guide. Link is in my bio.
