Survive (Selby) are looking for volunteers who are willing to be trained to offer practical and emotional support to individuals within their local community who are survivors of sexual abuse, sexual assault and r**e.

Survive (support for survivors of r**e and sexual abuse) began as a self-help organisation in 1990 and was registered as a charity and as a company limited by guarantee in 1998.

The organisation aims to provide a safe community within which survivors can begin to be heard and start to think about their own needs. Through our support, survivors often become aware of their own strengths and, through groups, provide the understanding to others that they have previously denied themselves. Having had an experience of feeling safe at Survive, many then go on to reconnect with the wider community.

The opportunity is suitable for over 18’s and recruitment involves application form, references, DBS check and an interview. There is a significant amount of training for this role and volunteers are supported throughout. Contact: Denise Smart [email protected]

Host- Cultural Exchange Christmas links international students at UK universities with friendly approved hosts who offer an invitation to their home for day, a weekend or 4 days at Christmas.

Hundreds of adult international students studying in the UK will be facing a lonely Christmas on a deserted University campus. Volunteer hosts invite students to visit for up to a few days at Christmas so that the student can experience 'real' Britain away from university and heavy tourism. In turn, the host can meet new people and learn about diverse cultures from around the world.

No particular skills are needed, just an interest in people.

Interested?, please contact Kimberley Brough at [email protected].
