The National Society of Allied and Independent Funeral Directors (SAIF) is a trade association which represents over 950 independent, often family run, funeral directors across the UK. The purpose of this page is to provide support, guidance and advice on all aspects of organising a funeral. SAIF funeral directors are not part of a larger national group but are privately owned and managed. In fact

SAIF welcomes the ASA ruling on a Pure Cremation TV advert, which reinforces the need for direct cremation marketing to be clear about what is, and is not, included.

Direct cremation may be right for some families, but it is important people understand the choices available to them, including whether there will be a service, gathering or opportunity to say goodbye.

Another busy and enjoyable day at

It's been fantastic to catch up with so many members, associate members, suppliers and colleagues from across the profession.

A particular thank you to SAIF National President Gary Staker, who has been meeting and greeting visitors throughout the exhibition, and to our valued campaign partners and associate members for their continued support.

The atmosphere has been brilliant, and it's been great to see so many conversations taking place around the future of independent funeral directing.

The doors are open and the SAIF team is ready for NFE 2026!

Over the next three days, we're looking forward to catching up with familiar faces, welcoming new ones and celebrating the independent funeral profession together.

You'll find us in Hall 2, Stand 374, where we're also serving barista coffee in support of Parkinson's UK, SAIF National President Gary Staker's Charity of the Year.

From 11–13 June, the SAIF team will be at Stoneleigh Park and we're looking forward to meeting Members, Associates and funeral professionals.

If you're attending, we'd be delighted to see you at Hall 2, Stand 374, where SAIF staff, Executive members and Committee representatives will be available throughout the exhibition.

The event is a valuable opportunity to connect with colleagues, share experiences and discuss the future of independent funeral care.

As the voice of independent funeral directors, SAIF welcomes the Law Commission's report and its recommendations for a clear regulatory framework to consider emerging funeral methods.

As families' preferences continue to evolve, any future options should be supported by appropriate oversight, professional standards and public confidence. The report also recognises the importance of giving families greater choice while ensuring dignity and safety remain at the heart of funeral care.

Our CEO, Terry Tennens, shares SAIF's perspective in this LBC coverage.

The commission’s report has recommended the need for a clear legal framework for new methods for dealing with dead bodies, but said the question of which methods should be used is one to be dealt with by governments
