We have some very sad news to share about Sandwich Wildlife Park, which, due to the constant restrictions and closures during the COVID outbreak, will not be opening up again when these restrictions are eventually being lifted.
All of the animals will be moved off the site either to Wingham Wildlife Park or to other wildlife parks, however this is going to take some time and the site will continue to be supported and staffed by Wingham Wildlife Park during this time, until the last animal is moved off the site.
We want to reassure everyone that Wingham Wildlife Park is completely safe and as well as all of the animals being looked after, the jobs of everyone at both sites remain secure.
This is a decision we have had to make because we simply cannot afford to continue to develop and maintain the 2 sites to ensure that they are constantly pushing forward to be at the top of our game for animal husbandry, conservation, education, research and visitor experience.
This is not something we can do without any income coming in to the parks, or ability to claim for things such as the government zoo fund.
This has been a very difficult decision to make, however during the current financial climate, Wingham Wildlife Park cannot continue to support Sandwich indefinitely and as such this is the best decision to make for Wingham Wildlife Park and the animals & staff at both sites.
We really do want to close this statement with the reassurance that all of the animals at both parks are completely safe and will continue to be looked after until the very last leaf cutter ant has been moved to a new home. We hope you all know us well enough by now to know that this has been a very difficult decision to make, with the wellbeing of the animals and our staff at heart.
