✨👩‍💻 Careers 👨‍🔬✨

Year 9 students had the opportunity to spend a day at Canterbury Christchurch University to learn more about higher education.

The day included an introduction to the opportunities available at university, an ethical debate and a tour of the facilities including the medical simulation suite and the prison cell, a part of the criminal justice course at CCCU.

The students were very engaged and participated extremely well with the university lead commenting, “You have been the best school group we have had in very long time” and a university ambassador quoting, “They have been a wonderful group. Their maturity and engagement has been better than the Year 12 tour days we have done recently.”

🇧🇪 Battlefields Trip 🇧🇪

Day 2 continued in the beautiful city of Ypres, with the sun finally breaking through before we visited the Brooding Soldier Memorial.
The evening began with a special moment at the Munchenhof Hotel, where Mr Sharples was presented with a cake to mark 20 years of leading battlefield visits – a fantastic achievement! 🎉

We then headed to the Menin Gate for the Last Post ceremony. A very proud moment as Riley, Amelia, Anastasia, and Seth laid a wreath on behalf of the school.

The group have been outstanding ambassadors throughout the trip, receiving so many positive comments from members of the public. We couldn’t be prouder of them all. 👏

🐯🐵Visit to Wingham Wildlife Park 🦒🐗

Our year 12 Social Sciences students visited Wingham Wildlife Park to collect data for an upcoming project.

From the moment we arrived, the students were impeccably behaved and inquisitive. They epitomised our school values of kindness and respect while gathering excellent data throughout the day.

After their hard work, they had the opportunity to explore the zoo and enjoy all that it had to offer.

A great day was had by all!

✨Battlefields Trip - June 26✨

Day 1 - saw the group visit Vimy Ridge, where they learned about the bravery of the Canadian soldiers, explored the tunnels, and uncovered the secrets hidden beneath the surface.

This year, Eden paid a special tribute to his Great Grandfather, Jock, who fought in a battle near Vimy and shared his truly remarkable story.

Day 2 - began with a visit to Essex Farm, where Kanie read the famous poem “In Flanders Fields” — a moving moment that brought history to life for everyone.

🏊‍♀️Swimming Success 🏊‍♀️

We are delighted to share that Eva Porreca has qualified for a national swimming competition in Sheffield this summer. Eva has been competing since she was 8 years old, and qualifying for the national competition means racing against the fastest swimmers in the country!

“This is a tremendous achievement and we are very proud of Eva. It demonstrates just what can be done with hard work, ambition and dedication. It is an achievement which I hope will inspire other students to pursue their goals with the same relentless determination.”

✨Battlefields Day 3 ✨

Day 3 saw the group visit Tyne Cot, the largest Commonwealth War graves Cemetery in the world, a must see for all battlefields visitors, before moving onto Hill 60 and the infamous ’caterpillar’.

The final stop was the site of the 1914 Christmas Truce at Plugstreet Wood where we to placed a signed football at the sight of the famous Christmas Day match.

The group have represented the school extremely well throughout the tour receiving several compliments from members of the public for their exceptional conduct.

It has been another highly successful battlefields tour.

Battlefields day two continued...

Today, our students continued exploring the powerful history of the Great War, visiting trenches, bunkers, memorials and cemeteries that brought their learning to life.

In the evening, they attended the moving Last Post ceremony at the Menin Gate. A special moment for our students, as Jayden, Henry, Mia and Grace were chosen by their peers to lay a wreath on behalf of STS — a truly memorable and meaningful honor.

📗Core Values📗

Brooke achieved all four core values in one lesson ✨

Brooke was being very supportive of her peers during their Spoken Language assessments…

“Speaking in front of the class was really nerve wracking for them all and she showed support and respect throughout - hyping them up and encouraging them. Brooke then completed her own speech in front of the class despite not needing to as she is going to be recorded for AQA separately, but she wanted to practice first to see how she needed to improve.”

🎤Mrs Stevenson

We are proud of you Brooke, keep up the good work!
