Extreme heat and wet winters are predicted to be increasingly common as our climate changes. We have not seen enough action nationally or locally to prepare us for these challenges. As LibDems, we are doing urgent work on this to push national and local government to protect residents, services and our environment.

Extreme heat is hitting communities across the country, yet Andy Burnham has been bafflingly silent.

After the UK’s hottest summer on record, we need to see far more action.

We need cross-party talks to protect Britain from worsening extreme weather.

🔶 Today we are delighted to announce Jo Hawley as the Liberal Democrat Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Bracknell.

Jo is a former senior civil servant and served as the UK’s Deputy Trade Commissioner for Europe and as Consul-General in China. She is a Bracknell resident and Warfield parish councillor.

Earlier in her career, Jo worked at the delivery end of government services, working on schools innovation and youth services at the Department for Education. There she led the national rollout of the youth programme National Citizen Service, ran an improvement programme across London boroughs to strengthen child protection, and restructured children’s services at Harrow Council.

Jo is also today announcing her first activity as Bracknell candidate: a hundred conversations in a hundred days, with community groups,
employers, school leaders, young people, families waiting for support and residents — and committed to publishing what she hears.
