๐ŸŽ… SPC's granted the Saltford Santa Dash ยฃ350! It's to support improved signage for this fantastic festive event. After last yearโ€™s fun but wet Dash โ˜” funding will help support improvements especially if it's rainy - to make the course clearer, safer and even more enjoyable for runners, families and volunteers.

A big thank you to the representative of Saltford Santa Dash for their comprehensive bid for funding at SPC's June meeting. SPC's pleased to support this much-loved community event. SPC has published its 'OBJECT' response to planning application '26/01700/OUT' (land south of Manor Road, Saltford), as resolved at its June meeting.

Read SPC's full response here:
https://www.saltfordparishcouncil.gov.uk/spc-submits-object-response-to-proposed-development-south-of-manor-road-saltford-26-01700-out/

SPC's 'OBJECT' response raises concerns regarding:

๐Ÿ”น Development of Green Belt land and the applicant's classification of the site as 'Grey Belt'

๐Ÿ”น The impact on the openness, landscape setting and rural character of Saltford

๐Ÿ”น Effects on biodiversity, wildlife habitats, mature trees and hedgerows

๐Ÿ”น Housing need and the suitability of the site for further residential growth

๐Ÿ”น Highway safety, school access, parking pressures and traffic congestion

๐Ÿ”น Flood risk and surface water management

๐Ÿ”น The loss of land currently used for therapeutic activities

๐Ÿ”น The potential presence of significant archaeological remains

Residents can view the application and, if they wish, submit their own comments directly to B&NES Council (the decision-making authority) via the B&NES planning portal:

This is the view if you attend one of SPC's meetings โ€“ photo taken yesterday. Thanks to residents who take the time to address the Council. Your local knowledge and input are always appreciated and help us better understand the issues that matter to our community.

While Parish Councils follow formal meeting procedures, SPC's made up of a friendly and approachable group of councillors who are all Saltford residents too.

๐Ÿšฃโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ—‘๏ธ A big thank you to volunteers from Wansdyke District Scouts Kayak Team, who took part in British Canoeing's annual river clean-up - making Saltford's stretch of the River Avon a little cleaner.

Six volunteers spent Sunday morning collecting litter between the Bird in Hand bridge and the Riverside Inn, removing more than seven bags of rubbish, along with several larger items. B&NES Council has been contacted to collect the waste.

The volunteers reported finding a mixture of debris (including polystyrene, plastic, rubber and timber), litter such as cans, bottles and wrappers, and dumped bags of rubbish which had broken apart and spread their contents along the riverbank.

Though disappointing to hear about this level of waste, it's positive to see local groups giving their time to care for our river, to help protect wildlife and our local environment. Thank you to everyone involved in this fantastic effort ๐Ÿ‘

Thanks also to the Saltford Wombles and all other litter-pickers who have been out, especailly this past week.

SPC encourages those visiting river side areas to follow the The Countryside Code and 'leave no trace'.

SPC welcomed the opportunity to meet with the new(ish!) Chief Executive of B&NES Council in Saltford today, at a meeting set up by B&NES Ward Cllr Chris Warren. It was a great opportunity to share the strengths of our community, discuss what matters most to residents, and highlight key challenges facing our village.

B&NES Cllr Chris Warren, SPC Chair Cllr Jon Godfrey and SPC Planning Chair Cllr Phil Harding were delighted to showcase some of the real gems in Saltfordโ€™s crown - including Saltford Hall, Saltford Sports Club, Saltford Tennis Club, the beautiful Saltford Conservation Area, and the river at Mead Lane.

Cllr Warren also took the Chief Executive to South Saltford to see the Green Belt landscapes that play such an important role in preserving the villageโ€™s rural identity.

There were many positive conversations throughout the visit about what makes Saltford such a special place to live. Discussions included our fantastic sense of community - from the upcoming Saltford Festival to the events and 60 affiliated groups of the Saltford Community Association.

The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss some of the key issues affecting residents, including protecting our Green Belt and rural identity, the need for improved public transport provision (fairer fares and better reliability - not bus lanes!), and concerns about A4 congestion coupled with the increasing use of residential roads as โ€˜rat runsโ€™.

We were very pleased to welcome the Chief Executive to Saltford and appreciated the opportunity to highlight both the strengths of our community and the challenges facing our village.

Thanks again to B&NES Ward Cllr Chris Warren for setting up this valuable meeting.
