Gosh how the time (and peregrine chicks) fly! 🦅

It feels like only yesterday that the four little balls of fluff hatched from their eggs, but in the blink of an eye, they have lost their down, gained their juvenile feathers and taken their maiden flights!

You can spot them in the skies around the tower now, and don't miss the RSPB volunteers running Date with Nature from 11am-4pm Monday to Saturday in the Close, who will have telescopes so you can watch the juveniles in action.

Culture and Creativity leading the way 🎨

A new independent Economic Impact Study, commissioned by Salisbury Cultural Strategy, shows that the city's leading cultural organisations - Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire Creative and Salisbury Museum - along with the City Council's wider role, make a substantial positive contribution to Salisbury's prosperity and social life.

The new research reveals that these organisations make a combined annual impact of £52 million, support almost 700 jobs and attract around 400,000 visits.

At the Cathedral, we are delighted to offer a warm welcome to visitors, worshippers and event-goers, and we are proud to play an important role in the city's economic vitality and continued growth.

We asked, you answered 😮

What a creative bunch you are! We received a whopping 350 submissions for names for our four peregrine chicks, and there were some clever responses to our “Joyful Noise” theme.

We have to give some honourable mentions, as you had our entire office giggling with names like Stevie Chicks, Kanye Nest and Tu Peck! But we are pleased to announce that our winners are based on everyone's favourite Swedish band, ABBA! Because what better way to celebrate Joyful Noise than by saying "Thank you for the music!"

So please may I formally introduce Agnetha, Frida, Björn and Benny!

Special thanks to Andrew, Julie, Dan, Scott, Lynette, Eleanor, Ruth, Sally, Karen, Michele and Ross who submitted the names.

On Sunday we marked 800 years since the remains of Salisbury’s early bishops were laid to rest in the ‘new’ Cathedral at New Sarum.

The day began at Old Sarum, where the Cathedral girls’ choir and Lay Vicars sang at a short service led by the Acting Bishop of Salisbury, The Right Revd Karen Gorham, and the Dean of Salisbury, The Very Revd Nicholas Papadopulos. This was part of a weekend of medieval crafts, activities and demonstrations at Old Sarum .

The clergy and choir then processed from Old Sarum to Salisbury Cathedral, where a festal Evensong was held later in the day.

Our thanks to English Heritage for their support in organising this special anniversary.

Happy Magna Carta Day! 📜

On June 15, 1215, King John sealed Magna Carta, establishing the principle that no one, not even the monarch, is above the law. Today it remains a powerful symbol of justice, inspiring landmark human rights legislation, including the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

Here at Salisbury Cathedral, we’re proud to be home to one of only four surviving original Magna Carta documents from 1215. You can enjoy our Magna Carta exhibition in our Chapter House, or if you'd like to learn more, why not book a place on our new Magna Carta Tour and delve into the fascinating history of how Magna Carta came to be.

A Tale of Two Cathedrals ✝️

Join us as we mark the 800th anniversary of the remains of the First Bishops being moved to the Cathedral Church of New Sarum, with two services on Sunday, one at Old Sarum at 1.30pm, and the second at Salisbury Cathedral at 3.30pm.

These commemorative services will reflect on a defining moment in Salisbury’s history, when the centre of worship moved from Old Sarum to Salisbury Cathedral, which continues to stand at the heart of the city today. There will also be free family craft activities in the Cloisters from 12pm-3pm. All are welcome to attend.

Our Angel Gabriel statue has been refreshed! 👼

We are delighted to see the return of the Angel Gabriel sculpture, which has returned after a deep clean. The sculpture by Emily Young is one of five angel heads made of Purbeck stone in 2008 to celebrate Salisbury Cathedral's 750th anniversary.

Here at the Cathedral, we only carry out non-invasive cleaning. Periodically, the piece is returned to the studio for a more thorough treatment, where it is carefully cleaned using conservation-grade tools and products to help protect the sculpture from weathering.

We are pleased to say it is back in the Cloister Garth, for visitors and worshippers to enjoy.
