EX NORDIC CHALLENGE🎿⛷️

SUAS recently sent one member to take part in Exercise Nordic Challenge 26 in Bardufoss Norway with the RAF Nordic Association. Joining RAF colleagues service-wide, they undertook intensive training on both classic and skating Nordic skiing, developing key skills in a challenging environment. The exercise culminated in a 5km race across Settermoen Skistadion. Other activities included supporting RAFNA members during the Reistadtøpet and opportunities to connect with other students from other UASs and personnel from across the RAF. A huge thank you to for organising and leading an outstanding exercise.

EX GRANTOWN CANOE 🛶🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Two weeks ago, 6 SUAS Students and our GTI joined and for a week of canoeing in Scotland.

Everyone completed Open Canoe Foundation (O2F) and fully embraced the Scottish rivers and lochs.

This was an excellent week of training and building teamwork, ahead of their trip to Yukon, Canada in the summer 🇨🇦🏞️

BRIGHTON TOWN SHOW

6 SUAS Students attended the Brighton Town Show, speaking and engaging with the public whilst operating as part of a wider RAF group. Thank you to everyone involved in the planning and ex*****on of the weekend! The students had a fabulous time meeting and chatting with members of the public.

EX ALPINE EDGE ⛷️🎿

A group of SUAS students headed to Montgenèvre in France to complete their Ski Foundation (SF) qualification, alongside ULAS, BUAS, and EMUAS. They were under the guidance of qualified RAF Instructors.

This ski programme allowed students to complete SF1 or SF2. Students improved their teamwork skills and navigation along the slopes. Students were pushed out their comfort zone, embraced new challenges, and create incredible memories.

EX ALPINE EDGE is an excellent example of some of the Adventurous Training you can get involved with on SUAS. Thank you to all the staff involved in the extensive planning of this week!

EX REGAL STAGS

Nine students travelled to London to discover the rich historic, political, and royal heritage it has to offer. The expedition began with a visit to 32 Squadron at RAF Northolt, where students gained a fascinating insight into the logistics behind flights for members of the Royal Family and visiting heads of state.

This was followed by a tour of the Houses of Parliament, providing a deeper appreciation of the history, traditions, and decision-making processes at the heart of British politics. Students also explored several museums , such as the RAF Museum, the Imperial War Museum, and the preserved wartime facilities at RAF Northolt, further enriching their understanding of WW2 history and heritage.

The trip concluded with a formal dinner at the Royal Air Force Club alongside members of the SUAS Association. This provided an invaluable opportunity for students to network with alumni from different generations, offering both inspiration and insight into potential future career paths.

Congratulations to Off Cdt Millward for completing his solo Navigation flight and to APO White for her first solo!

It takes hard work and dedication to reach the navigation phase in the syllabus and is a massive achievement. You can see Ben’s route on the last slide. Now onto his navigation test to achieve the preliminary flying badge. Good luck!

Ex CLOUDY STAGS

This week SUAS students went on a Force Development trip to Boscombe Down Aviation Collection. Students gained a greater appreciation for aircraft stationed at Boscombe Down, along with its history of aircraft and weapons testing. Thank you to for hosting us, the students had a wonderful time!

Huge congratulations to Off Cdts Abdo and Rawson for achieving their first solo flights in the Tutor! Both students have worked very hard to complete this milestone in flight training.

Flying solo is one of many fantastic opportunities the SUAS offers its students.
