MODERN. LETHAL. WARFIGHTERS. 💥

The Scottish Gunners have been putting their warfighting skills to the test on Ex TARTAN CYCLONE 26, sharpening our capabilities as an armoured artillery Regiment and preparing for the demands of the modern battlefield.

The guns were deployed and fired from gun pits, dug and refurbished in collaboration with our friends from 26 Engineer Regiment | British Army. A huge team effort, ensuring our Gunners could fight from prepared positions and put their firepower to work.

Working with modern equipment and cutting-edge Army technology, the exercise focused on developing our people, refining our skills and delivering our core purpose: providing lethal fire support to fight and win wars on land.

Training extended beyond the guns, with personnel receiving field-based instruction from the Royal School of Artillery on electronic warfare (EW), including jamming and spoofing. This provided valuable insight into the challenges posed by electronic warfare on the modern battlefield and the importance of understanding an increasingly complex operating environment.

We were also joined by 5 RI**ES Mortar Platoon and DREADNAUGHT Squadron of the Royal Tank Regiment, bringing together different capabilities and expertise to train alongside one another.

Uncrewed Aerial Systems (UAS) and other advanced technologies were integrated into training, helping our people develop the skills and adaptability needed to remain effective on an ever-evolving battlefield.

The exercise culminated in fireplans and direct-fire training, bringing together the hard work, teamwork and technical expertise demonstrated throughout the exercise.

💥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 OP CABRIT 19 | LIVE FIRE READY 🇪🇪

From taking over equipment to preparing for live fire, 19 (Gibraltar 1779–1783) Battery is hitting the ground running in Estonia.

The Battery has completed its final Detachment’s Front ahead of its first Live Fire Exercise on Op CABRIT 19. This key demonstration tests the Gun Group’s ability to deploy at immediate notice, ensuring personnel are ready to respond when called upon.

The inspection was led by Lieutenant Colonel Welford, Commanding Officer of the KRH Battlegroup, who took the opportunity to meet the Battery’s Gunners and Officers and gain a deeper understanding of the people and capabilities behind Gun Group deployments.

And that’s just the beginning. In less than two weeks, 19 Battery has completed the handover and takeover of equipment, received academic briefs from Estonian counterparts and continued preparations through weapon familiarisation, vehicle preparation and the development of standard operating procedures.

A busy start to the tour, with plenty more to come. The Gunners are preparing to deliver alongside our NATO allies and stand ready for the challenges ahead.

🇬🇧 OP CABRIT 18 | HOMECOMING PARADE 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Seven months away. One unforgettable homecoming.

After seven months deployed on Op CABRIT 18, our soldiers from 28/143 Bty have returned to Larkhill, reunited with the families and loved ones who have supported them every step of the way.

The Royal Welsh Battlegroup held a homecoming parade in Tidworth Garrison. The Homecoming Parade was an opportunity to recognise the hard work, commitment and achievements of the Battlegroup throughout the deployment, while celebrating the safe return of our personnel to those who matter most.

The celebrations continued with a families day, bringing soldiers and their loved ones together to reflect on the tour, share stories and create memories that will last long after the deployment has ended.

Behind every soldier is a network of family and friends whose support makes these deployments possible. This homecoming was as much about recognising their patience, resilience and sacrifice as it was about welcoming our soldiers home.

As Op CABRIT 18 draws to a close, we reflect with pride on the achievements of the Battlegroup, the bonds forged with our NATO allies and the people who made the deployment what it was.

Mission complete. Tour over. Home where we belong. 🇬🇧

The battlefield is changing — and The Scottish Gunners are changing with it.

While we remain a war-fighting, armoured, Scottish Gunner Regiment, we are constantly developing our skills and embracing the technology that is shaping modern warfare.

12 more Scottish Gunners qualified as Small Uncrewed Air System (sUAS) operators, gaining qualifications across three different platforms. 🚁

From the ground to the air, these new skills give our personnel greater awareness, flexibility, and capability on the modern battlefield.

Technology continues to evolve at pace, and so must we. By investing in new capabilities and developing our people, The Scottish Gunners remain trained, prepared, and ready to fight whenever and wherever we are called upon.

The future of warfare is already here; and we’re ready for it.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 THE SCOTTISH GUNNERS DIG IN 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Getting ready to put rounds downrange later this month means getting the groundwork right first.

In preparation for the Regimental Live Fire Exercise, 127 (Dragon) Battery, supported by the rest of the Clan, 26 Engineer Regiment | British Army and 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, spent nearly two weeks reconditioning the Gun Pits on Salisbury Plain Training Area.

With expert support from our friends in the Royal Engineers, specialist plant operators brought the heavy machinery — and the knowledge — to get the Gun Pits back into fighting condition.

But it wasn’t all done by machine.

Over 2,800 sandbags were filled and placed by hand, alongside metal sheeting, pickets and revetments, transforming the Gun Pits into positions ready for the Regiment to train from.

Two weeks of hard graft, teamwork and plenty of digging will soon pay off when the guns take their positions and the firing begins. 💥

A huge effort from everyone involved — and we can’t wait to see the finished positions put to the test later this month.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 ONE BATTERY RETURNS, ANOTHER DEPLOYS | OP CABRIT 18–19 🇪🇪

As 28/143 Battery brings Op CABRIT 18 to a close, The Scottish Gunners have marked another important moment in the Regiment’s deployment cycle, formally saying farewell and wishing good luck to 19 Battery Group as they prepare to deploy on Op CABRIT 19.

As one Battery returns home, another takes its place, continuing the Regiment’s commitment to Estonia and NATO’s forward presence.

For 19 Battery Group, this deployment marks the final rotation in a series of four six-month tours for the Regiment. Their departure brings us one step closer to a significant milestone: reuniting the entire Scottish Gunners in 2027, for the first time since March 2025.

To 19 Battery Group, we wish you every success on Op CABRIT 19. Take care of each other, make us proud and we look forward to welcoming you home.

🏅🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 THE SCOTTISH GUNNERS | INTER-BATTERY ATHLETICS 2026 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🏅

A little sunshine, plenty of competition and a whole lot of Scottish Gunner spirit! ☀️🏃‍♂️

The Scottish Gunners came together at Tidworth Athletics Ground for the annual Inter-Battery Athletics Competition, with Batteries going head-to-head across a packed afternoon of sporting events.

From the long jump, high jump and shot put to individual track races and relays, the competition brought out the determination, teamwork and competitive spirit of every Battery, with plenty of encouragement from the crowds along the way.

But there could only be one overall winner…

🐉 Congratulations to 127 (Dragon) Battery, who took the title and the silverware for 2026! 🏆

More than just a competition, the afternoon was a celebration of the camaraderie, pride and Clan ethos that make The Scottish Gunners what they are.

🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 The Scottish Gunners welcome back 38 (Seringapatam) Battery 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

A significant day for The Scottish Gunners as 1st Regiment Royal Horse Artillery, 26th Regiment Royal Artillery and The Scottish Gunners came together for a Resubordination Parade, formally welcoming V Battery to 1 RHA and, welcoming 38 (Seringapatam) Battery back to 19th Regiment Royal Artillery.

With a history stretching back to 1768, 38 (Seringapatam) Battery has a proud and distinguished lineage. Having previously been part of The Scottish Gunners until 2018, their return marks the beginning of a new chapter — and we couldn’t be happier to have them back in the Clan.

The parade was made even more special by the presence of Brigadier Karen Peek, a former Commanding Officer of The Scottish Gunners, who returned as the Saluting Officer. Brigadier Peek now commands 3 Deep Recce Strike Brigade.

A parade steeped in history, tradition, and pride, marking not only the return of an old friend, but the strengthening of the Clan that makes up The Scottish Gunners.

A warm welcome home to 38 (Seringapatam) Battery. We look forward to writing the next chapter together.

The Scottish Gunners had the privilege and honour of becoming the first Royal Artillery unit to get up close and hands-on with the new RCH 155 armoured self-propelled artillery system this morning.

An exciting opportunity to see the next generation of artillery capability first-hand, get hands-on with the platform and put questions directly to the teams working to bring this new system into service. A hugely valuable experience, offering a real insight into the future of our trade.

For the Royal Artillery, our guns are our colours. They are more than just equipment — they are the beating heart of our Regiments, our identity and our proud tradition. As we look ahead to this new capability, that connection remains as strong as ever.

Six months. One Battery. Countless experiences.

As Op CABRIT 18 comes to a close, 28/143 Battery reflects on a busy and rewarding deployment in Estonia, working alongside our French and Estonian allies as part of NATO’s Forward Land Forces.

From the intensity of LFX Tornado and three live-fire exercises to working shoulder to shoulder with our NATO partners, the Battery has spent the past six months developing its capabilities, delivering on its mission and building relationships that extend far beyond the training area.

The tour has been about more than operational activity. Personnel took part in an Engineers Demo Day, completed a Level 2 FST course and pushed themselves at Tombs Trailblazer, a cardio-based charity event that brought the Battery together for a shared challenge — before rounding things off with a well-deserved BBQ.

There was also time to celebrate the people behind the deployment. The Arty Party and BFBS show brought the Battlegroup together, with British and French personnel sharing an evening of celebration, camaraderie and memories to take home.

The deployment was also marked by a Medals Parade, where personnel received the NATO Medal on behalf of Estonia in recognition of their contribution throughout the tour. 🎖️

From demanding training to unforgettable moments, Op CABRIT 18 has been an opportunity to grow, work alongside our allies and strengthen the bonds that make us a team.
