As part of their commitment to re-role to L118 Light Gun, 127 (Dragon) Battery recently participated on Ex DRAGON CYCLONE, focusing on developing core gunnery skills. Gun detachments were drilled on the Indirect Fire Simulator, allowing all experience levels the opportunity to refine their procedures and maximise lethality. In the Command Post, lessons were delivered to ensure everyone understood key processes to ensure efficiency and situational awareness.

Instructors also tested personnel on CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear), C-EO (Counter-Explosive Ordinance), BCD (Battlefield Casualty Drills) and weapon handling serials, supporting all ranks to maintain their foundational soldiering abilities.

Last week, 127 (Dragon) Battery, supported by members of the wider Regiment, formed part of an es**rt to the Crown and street lining contingent for Their Majesties The King and Queen in Edinburgh.

The Battery made the most of their time in the Regiment’s spiritual homeland, being given time to enjoy the sights of Edinburgh once their duties were complete.

Thank you to the Royal Artillery Association for providing funding to support our team cohesion evening.

5 (Gibraltar 1779-1783) Battery have just returned from Edinburgh Castle where they conducted a 21 Gun Royal Salute!

Hosted by 105 RA over the course of the week our soldiers had the opportunity to explore the city, visit historical Scottish sites including Sterling Castle, and conduct adventurous training in the hills surrounding the area! The Battery came together for an all ranks dinner supported with much appreciated funds the Royal Artillery Association for some hard earned time recuperating from the work they have been conducting on operations and readiness in Eastern Europe and the UK.

The Gun Salute at Edinburgh Castle is a unique opportunity allowing our service people to demonstrate their ceremonial skills which compliment their day to day work on the gun line. The ceremony marked the arrival of the Lord High Commissioner to the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. The Salute was presided over by Alyson Bell, the Scottish record holder for the 200m Sprint and representative of Team GB at the 2023 World Athletics Championships. This event was an excellent way for our soldiers to pay homage to our heritage as the Scottish Gunners.

As part of their preparations to take over as the Lead Armoured Battlegroup, the 5 Battery Tac Gp has completed a range package in Castlemartin with the 1 MERCIAN Battlegroup.

This consisted of dismounted dynamic moving ranges and night shoots to hone small team skills and drills. It also included completing chain gun shoots in their armoured Warrior Observation Post Vehicles.

This week our soldiers have been out on the range competing in the 3 Deep Recce Strike Brigade Operational Shooting Competition, honing their skills on both rifle and pistol. The shoots on this competition are physically demanding, being designed to simulate situations our soldiers could face on combat operations.

A team of 8 went head to head against Regiments from across the Brigade, with one of our troops winning Champion Solider, a prize for the best shot of the competition!

A great opportunity for our soldiers to get out and represent the Regiment whilst practicing some of the fundamental skills of soldiering.

“Rounds Complete”

127 (Dragon) Battery are rounds complete on their Combined Arms Live Fire Exercise with the RTR Battlegroup. This marks their final exercise on Op CABRIT 17 before their return home over coming weeks.

The exercise saw the Battery supporting both British and French subunits and marks their final firing of ARCHER before converting to the L118 Light Gun following some much deserved post-operational tour leave.
