In response to the information released by the ICB in February regarding the Children’s Autism and ADHD Transformation Programme, events have been arranged to share this information with parents. Following on from the 2 events held on 21 April, a further 2 sessions are now available for parents / carers to book on. Each event is open to 30 attendees.

Understanding the Role of a Trainee Educational Psychologist (TEP)

What Does a Trainee Educational Psychologist (TEP) Do?

You might sometimes see a trainee working alongside your school’s Educational Psychologist (EP), and that’s completely normal! TEPs are completing a three year doctoral programme, and real world school experience is a key part of their training.
Working with qualified EPs helps TEPs to…
• Develop skills in consultation, assessment, intervention, training, research and strategic work.
• Learn from the experience and approaches of qualified practitioner psychologists.
• Build their confidence and shape their professional identity as future EPs.
• Engage in supervision to ensure their work is safe, ethical and reflective.
• Meet the requirements of their training.

For children, parents and school staff, this may mean that…

A TEP may be involved when your school or family works with an Educational Psychologist. This can involve the TEP:

• Observing a qualified EP’s work
• Working jointly with an EP during casework
• Leading parts of casework under the supervision of a qualified EP

This supportive structure ensures trainees gain essential experience, while schools and families continue to receive high quality support.
