Update: 1 back 5 still out there!
Thank you to the resident who has kindly brought one cone back already that had appeared on their driveway.

Cemetery Cones – Request for Return

At the end of August, our traffic cones at the cemetery were repeatedly taken and misused by individuals. We are currently missing six cones and would appreciate their return.

The cones can be returned to the Cemetery or to the Parish Council Office in Claytawc.

No further action will be taken provided the cones are returned safely.

🌿Summer Community Litter Pick Success!

St Dennis Parish Council would like to say a massive thank you to all who took part in our Summer Community Litter Pick.

It was fantastic to see so many members of the community getting involved. There were some familiar faces and some new which was great to see. We had teams from Suez and Cornish Lithium as well as several family groups, our Parish Councillors and Cornwall Councillor Dick Cole. The weather was warm and dry, and everyone worked super hard gathering a staggering 14 black bags of rubbish from around the Parish.

Once the hard work was completed we all headed back to ClayTAWC for well-deserved refreshments including the much-anticipated pasties plus a bonus ice-cream to help cool off! All the children who took part also received a certificate and a fantastic goody bag with treats and small crafts to take away.

We would also like to say thank you to Imerys in Cornwall for their donation which meant we could provide the pasties for our hungry volunteers, Cornish Lithium for their donation to the new children’s goody bags and Suez for continuing to support our litter picks by providing equipment.

It’s always rewarding to see our great community come together to make a difference. We can’t wait to do it all again next year!

UPDATE ON TRERICE SOLAR FARM [from Cllr Dick Cole - 12.08.26]

The proposal for a 32MW solar farm at Trerice was today given the go-ahead by a government planning inspector.

The original application was recommended for approval by planning officers at Cornwall Council, but was turned down by councillors at a meeting of the Strategic Planning Committee on 10th July 2025. The applicants went to appeal and a hearing was held at the Pitch on 12th May.

The planning inspector has today (12th of August 2026) published her ruling. She acknowledges that the solar array will have a “significant adverse impact on the local landscape,” as well as “limited harm as a result of the long-term loss of best and most versatile land, and harm at the lower end of ‘less than substantial’ harm to the setting of two designated heritage assets.”

But she also gave significant weight to the “national benefits associated with renewable or low carbon energy” and, in her conclusion, took the view that the “totality of benefits of the proposal outweighed the harms.”

The applicants also lodged an application for an award of costs. This was refused. The planning inspector noted the following:

“Local residents and councillors raised pertinent matters in respect of character and appearance and heritage, amongst other things. Even though my final decision was to allow the development, it was not, in my view, a case which could be described as one which should clearly have been permitted, as the various matters raised needed to be weighed in the planning balance. Members are, in any event, entitled to disagree with officer’s recommendations, and in this case they did so on reasonable grounds and engaged proactively throughout the appeal process.”
