🚨 〓〓 Cautiously optimistic news for Cornwall today: In his first statement to the Commons, the new PM Andy Burnham has committed to a proper devolution deal for the Duchy, with OR WITHOUT an elected Mayor.

It was fantastic to secure a Cornwall-only footprint some months ago and ensure there will be no merger with other authorities.

This follows months of cross-party campaigning to set out clear red lines, and I'm glad this Government has finally taken our voice seriously.

This has been a genuine cross-party effort, and it shows what's possible when Team Kernow works together.

Thanks must go to my fellow Cornish MPs, Cornwall Council Leader Leigh Frost, and councillors, as well as colleagues in the Lords, and countless others all of whom have played their part in getting us to this point.

But as we know all too well here in Cornwall: Warm words are one thing, and real delivery is quite another.

I’m looking forward to our meeting at Number 10 North to ensure Cornwall now gets the best possible deal. It must recognise our National Minority Status and all that Cornwall has to offer. 🤝
