A wonderful family day out for all animal lovers. The Screech Owl Sanctuary was founded in 1990 and is situated in mid Cornwall on the edge of the Goss Moor nature reserve near Indian Queens. We hold one of the largest collection of owls in the south west with over 30 different species from all over the world. We deal with all rescue and rehabilitation of sick and injured owls and birds of prey in the county and where possible return the owls to their former locations. We provide education to both adults and children and allow them the opportunity of close encounters with these beautiful and majestic birds. The Sanctuary has been involved in many conservation projects of endangered species and at certain times of the year visitors can see baby owls. On site we have several other animals including Emus, Meerkat, Alpacas, Pygmy Goats, Wallabies and Lemurs

Our owls provided the inspiration for the animated owl film The Legend of the Guardians. Please look at our website for daily activities, special events, admission prices, discount vouchers and opening times throughout the year.

A huge thank you and well done goes out to everyone who entered the competition - we were overwhelmed with well-composed and high quality images. Our judges had a really tough decision to make when whittling it down to only 13 but we are super impressed with the final selection.

Today is International Primate Day.🦍

Around 60% of primate species are currently threatened with extinction primarily due to deforestation, habitat fragmentation, and hunting.

Less than a week left to wait!
We cannot wait to welcome as many of you as possible to our British Wildlife & Conservation Day. Entry will be by donation. There will be many stalls from local conservation organisations as well as plenty of activities going on throughout the day. We hope to inspire all to get outdoors and enjoy all the wildlife we share our world with and help raise some money to support projects trying to protect it.

✨Saturday Species Spotlight✨

Verreaux’s Eagle Owl

One of Africa’s largest owls, the magnificent Verreaux’s Eagle Owl is instantly recognisable by its striking dark plumage, bright orange eyes and prominent ear tufts. Found across much of sub-Saharan Africa, these powerful nocturnal hunters prey on everything from rodents, small mammals and even other owls. Despite their impressive size, they are incredibly stealthy flyers—using their soft feathers to glide silently through the night. This species are thought to have inspired the design of the iconic Furby! Their huge eyes, fluffy appearance and distinctive ear tufts certainly make the resemblance hard to miss.
