Wondering what More Cornish than May Day is? 🤔

More Cornish than May Day is a celebration of the centenary of the West of England Bandsmen’s Festival, known locally as Bugle Band Contest which is held annually within our parish.

This year we have an exhibition at Wheal Martyn to celebrate the Centenary! 🎉

Our exhibition, staged in collaboration with the Festival organisers, will showcase memorabilia collected from previous contests and share the significance of this much-loved event, as it marks its 100th competition – the stories of how it was formed, its roots in the community, and where it is today.

Open from 10.00am to 5.00pm (last entry to museum 4.00pm). Price included in standard museum admission.

The 2026 Bugle Band Contest itself will be held on Saturday 20 June at Molinnis Park, Bugle.

We can't wait for the Mevagissey Shanty Festival Joint fundraiser!

Join us and the Mevagissey Shanty Festival at Wheal Martyn on Saturday 11 July for our annual fundraising concert. 🎶

The Block House Chainers from Fowey and The DerryAirs from Downderry will be performing traditional and original shanties and folk songs inspired by Cornwall and our rich mining and maritime heritage. ⚓

Doors open at 6.15pm, performance starts at 7.00pm
Tickets are £14.00 per person (age 12 and under free)

Proceeds raised from the event will be split equally between Mevagissey Shanty Festival and Wheal Martyn Trust!

Saturday 11th July, doors open at 6.30 and the performance starts at 7pm.

You’ll be supporting both the Wheal Martyn Clay Works (well worth a visit) and this years Meva Shanty Fest..You can pre-order pasty’s, and buy hot and cold beverages from the cafe as well as the wonderful beer from Keltek Brewery. What’s not to love?
