Work Building Our New Pond is Complete!
After weeks of weather delays, we are happy to share that the new pond in Jersey Farm Woodland Park is now finished.
For a short period we will be living with some bare soil scarring from the build... but this is just the beginning. As nature will now take over, and what happens next is something really special.
What to expect over the coming years:
• This summer: The first plants, mosses and grasses will begin to appear, along with insects like dragonflies and beetles.
• Within 1–2 years: Amphibians such as frogs, toads and newts should start to arrive.
• By 2–3 years: More complex underwater plants will establish, creating a richer habitat.
• Longer term: The pond will settle into a natural balance, supporting a wide range of wildlife.
We’re taking a “wait and see” approach, allowing natural colonisation to do its work. This gives the best chance for a healthy, balanced ecosystem to develop.
A BIG request:
Please don’t introduce plants or wildlife from elsewhere as this can unintentionally bring invasive species that harm the pond.
Over time, we’ll carefully manage things if needed, such as controlling invasive plants and helping the habitat thrive.
This pond has been designed with gentle edges and natural clay lining to maximise biodiversity and being close to other green spaces will help wildlife find it quickly.
👏 A huge thank you to Parish Councillor Ann Thomas and all the team at the Parish Office; their determination made this happen! It’s a brilliant addition to the park, and we can’t wait to watch it come to life.
Enjoy the drone footage and keep an eye out for the first signs of life!
