Tibbs Farm Cafe and working family farm set overlooking the picturesque Tillingham Valley in East Sussex near Rye. Owned and run by the Wheeler family.

Summer PYO fruits, hop growers, Romney sheep, laying hens, christmas trees and seasonal attractions. We are a traditional mixed Sussex farm with cafe, extensive PYO soft fruit (including strawberries and 7 varieties of gooseberries), homegrown Christmas trees, sheep and hop growers since 1695. 🍈 Invicta cooking gooseberries. The classic green tart gooseberry. So underrated and so easy to use. Fool anyone?

The PYO season is finally here 🍓 🍓🍓

Opening this Saturday 6th June. Strawberries and Gooseberries get the season off the ground. We’ll be open all weekend for fruit picking 9am - 4pm.

No entry price, just pay on the weight of fruit picked.

Lots more fruits to follow from later June. 🍓🍑🍈🍒

🐓 We’re open this bank holiday Monday and all through the week as normal 🐓

Breakfast and lunch served daily in the café, hearty roasts with our own homereared meats on Sundays plus there’s plenty of outdoor space for children to run around, and the maze is open (watch out for those nettles) for anyone willing to get slightly lost.

And don’t forget to stock up on eggs! Our hens are in full laying flow, fresh as can be pasture grazing hens 👌

A little insight into what we’ve been up to in the background...

Hop stringing is part of the growing process.

We run strings from the ground up to overhead wires so the hop plants have something to climb up. Without it, we’d have a carpet of hops which would quickly catch disease and die.

Each plant is trained clockwise climbing around the coarse coir string as it grows, eventually reaching several metres high before growing lateral shoots all the way down the bine from which the hops will grow.

It’s simple and repetitive, and the first step in our calendar year to grow all our lovely hops bound for the brewing industry.

One of the quieter jobs on the farm, but a vital one.

Burger Saturdays at Tibbs 🍔

Have you tried our home-reared, Sussex-bred beef burger yet? If not, Saturday is the day to change that.

Every Saturday at Tibbs:
✨ Burger & chips for £12 ✨

We start with freshly ground mince, hand-ball each burger individually, then press them on the griddle to create our juicy 8oz patties. Topped with extra mature cheddar, homemade tomato salsa, and served in a lightly toasted brioche bun.
With homemade triple-cooked crispy potato wedges on the side. 🤌

To drink?
How about pairing it with a crisp lager from Brewing Brothers or a pint of Long Man Best Bitter while overlooking our hop gardens where the hops were grown for the brews. 🍺🌿

As you may be aware, we’ve been here a while. As a family we’ve been growing hops since 1690 but we actually came to Udimore 70 years ago when our grandfather having fledged the family farm in Kent arrived just over the border in Sussex.

What we do hasn’t changed all that much - we grow food, raise animals, we look after the land, and we try to make it a place people actually want to spend time in.

These days that also means good coffee, tasty food, somewhere for families to run around, and the occasional explanation of what’s growing in the fields (whether you asked or not).

It’s still a working farm at heart, just one that happens to welcome you all in.
