• If one of our dog wardens picks up a stray dog and is able to return it to its owner via microchip or tag details there is a statuary fine of £25. If our dog warden picks up any strays and has taken it to the kennels before contact with the owner the fines will be:

Kennelling fees : £10 per day

No Collar & Tag or microchip and no agreement to have micr

ochip:
8am-5pm Mon-Thurs: £50
8am-4.30pm Friday : £50
5pm-10pm Mon-Fri: £80
10am-10pm Sat, Sun and Bank Holidays: £80

Already has a Collar & Tag or micro chipped:
8am-5pm Mon-Thurs: £40
8am-4.30pm Friday: £40
5pm-10pm Mon-Fri: £70
10am-10pm Sat, Sun and Bank Holidays: £70

Also please could all dog owners pick up their dog faeces as there is a complaint procedure within the council and could lead to an on the spot fixed penalty notice of £75 if not paid within 14 days could end up in court facing anything up to £1000 fine. If you wish to report dog fouling please contact Community Protection Team 01824 706000

Here is the update on banned dog breeds from Defra:
- From 1 July 2026, you no longer need third-party public liability insurance.
- From 1 November 2026, it will become illegal to leave a 12-year-old child or under with a banned dog breed without adult supervision.
