Rustington Parish Council Official page of Rustington Parish Council located on the south west coast of West Sussex

The Council has been in continuous existence since 1894 and is responsible for many local services catering for a wide age range. It is a small local authority consisting of 16 Councillors, elected every four years, who represent the residents of Rustington on many Bodies and Organisations, both Statutory and Voluntary. The Council is a Statutory Body, looking after the interests of Rustington as a whole. It is consulted by the local Planning Authorities on Planning Applications and other associated matters, and by other Bodies on matters affecting the local community. Meetings of the Council and its Committees are open to the Public, with an opportunity to ask questions beforehand. Agendas are displayed on this Website, the Public Notice Boards around Rustington and are also available for inspection in the Public Library, together with the relevant Minutes. The Council provides a range of services within the Parish including over 120 Allotment Plots (3 Sites), Rustington Museum, Bus/Beach Shelters, Public Toilets, Public Seats, Notice Boards, some Footway Lighting, War Memorial, the Woodlands Centre and Recreation Ground, Rustington Youth Centre, Enhancement and Maintenance of the Central Shopping Area and certain other locations in the Village, including floral planters and trees. The Parish Council also provides financial assistance towards the Christmas Lighting in The Street. Grant Aid is also awarded, according to need, to a variety of local community groups and organisations, including the Arun & Chichester Citizens Advice.

Thank you Alison Griffiths MP for this update and your ongoing commitment regarding the fight to save the Zachary Merton Hospital site for community health care provision:

“🚨 A couple of clarifications, as lots of of people have asked similar questions ☺️

🏥 On the former Littlehampton Hospital site, I have secured an important written commitment from NHS Property Services that 100% of the net proceeds from any sale of the surplus land will be reinvested in local healthcare facilities, including Littlehampton Health Centre. Under its usual policy, only 50% of the proceeds from qualifying sales would be retained locally, so securing a commitment to keep the full amount here is a significant achievement. This has only happened because I have consistently pressed NHS leaders to ensure that money raised from the sale of local NHS land stays in our area, where it belongs, and is used to benefit local patients.

➡️ On Zachary Merton Hospital in Rustington, my formal request to the Secretary of State for the decision to permanently close services to be called in for review remains active. I understand that NHS England has now been in contact with Sussex Community NHS Foundation Trust to examine the decision, and I am awaiting further updates. I know how strongly residents feel about this, and I share their frustration at how long the process has taken. Please be assured that I continue to actively pursue both matters. I have not given up on Zachary Merton, and I will continue pressing for proper scrutiny of the closure decision, clear answers for residents, and the protection of local healthcare services.”

🏥 I met with Karen McDowell, Chief Executive of NHS Surrey and Sussex ICB, at the former Littlehampton Hospital site last week to discuss the future of local healthcare services and the opportunities to improve provision for residents.

🤝 An important outcome is confirmation that 100% of the proceeds from the sale of the adjacent land will be ringfenced for investment in local healthcare. I’ve been pressing for that assurance, and I welcome the commitment that money raised from our local NHS estate will remain here, benefiting our communities.

💙 I’ve had constructive discussions with Karen, and I appreciate her commitment to improving services and health outcomes for local residents. The focus now must be on what that investment will deliver in practice. I’ll continue working with her and her team to ensure the money is put to good use and makes a tangible difference to healthcare in Littlehampton.

🔥BONFIRE EVENT CHANGE 🔥

Littlehampton Bonfire Celebrations 2026 will NOT take place on Saturday 24th October 2026. Would all marshals volunteered for Saturday please stand down, unless you have already agreed to help Sunday instead.

HOWEVER we have come up with an alternative plan!

SUNDAY 25TH OCTOBER 2026

Sunday 25th October 2026 we see a scaled back event which will feature the lighting of our bonfire, grand fireworks display and family funfair.

The timetable for Sunday is as followed:
16:00hrs - Family FunFair opens on seafront
19:30hrs - Lighting of our Bonfire
20:00hrs - Fireworks Display

There will be NO procession!

Thank you to everyone for your support and we will see you on Sunday evening!

Thank you all for such an amazing response to this years event! You may have noticed that this year we have made a page as opposed to an event, this is so we can use the same page for both our Bluebell tractor run in April and our Christmas tractor run and hopefully we can stop so many scam posts! Please note we never live stream the event, nor ask for bank details!

Back by popular demand The Arundel Illuminated Tractor Run 2026.

By kind permission of the Duke and Duchess of Norfolk, we will be back at Hiorne Tower on Sunday 20th December for our Christmas charity tractor run in aid of Chestnut Tree House and The Farming Community Network (FCN).
