These are before and after photos on Etchinghill showing the cork achieved over winter under the leadership of the Wildlife Trust.

The Wildlife Trust and the Trustees would like to thank everyone involved. There is more to do and the Wildlife Trust will attempt to find money via bids to continue in the winter. There are no more work parties until after the bird nesting season but we will keep you posted or you can check the Wildlife Trust.

We have had an email from Charlie at the Wildlife Trust.

Funding has been secured for further hill work from October 2024 until the end of February 2025.

Upcoming work part dates:
- Tuesday 8th October
- Tuesday 22nd October
- Tuesday 29th October
- Tuesday 12th November
- Tuesday 26th November

More to follow…..

We look forward to seeing you if you are able to join us for an hour or two.

The great news is that the area we worked on has had a good covering of heather since our previous work.

The church cafe still offers free tea coffee and biscuits on a Tuesday from 11-1 pm and also toilet facilities.

If you plan to join the work party meet us on site - up from the lay-by opposite the playing field, starting around 10am.

A huge thank you to everyone who turned out to pick litter for us during the Great British Spring clean week.

Special thanks to the many people who came along including local councillors Olivia Lyons and husband Rob, Nick Lyons, Darren Foley and members of the local Lions club and Rugeley Open Spaces Association (ROSA).

Together we collected a lot of litter. Many hands make light work.

We've received this message from the Wildlife Trust about today's session:

-

"Sadly the weather is not on our side for the session tomorrow with high winds again so it will have to be cancelled.

I understand it is shorter notice than usual but I don't want to cancel and leave no other option, so I have rearranged my calendar and will be running our last session on Tuesday 27th February instead next week.

Apologies for those of you who won't be able to make it but please pop by to say hello if you can.

Hope to see you on Tuesday."

Happy New Year everyone!
We have some exciting new sessions planned continuing the clearance of the self seeded birch saplings on the hill to restore the heathland.
A good way to work off any Christmas excesses!

Our next sessions at Etching Hill will be on:
- Wednesday 7th February
- Wednesday 21st February

For each of the sessions we will start at 10.00 am on the site we meet at the lay-by opposite the playing field
If it is very wet or snowing then sessions will be cancelled.

The Wildlife Trust are overseeing and leading this project and Charlie the group leader can be contacted directly - details are below:

The scrub clearance with the Wildlife Trust is going well. There have been many self seeded saplings removed from the patch where we planted heather. The gorse is still an issue but the Wildlife Trust have plans to help us tackle this at a later stage.

The work parties for scrub clearance are continuing:

- Wednesday 6th December at 10.00am

Meet at the lay-by on the edge of the hill opposite the playing field in Mount Road. Or find us at the worksite on the heather patch up the track from the lay-by on the hill. Stay for as long or as little as you wish as everything helps.
These will be the last sessions before Christmas.

Thank you to everyone who has been helping with the work.

We had a very good turn out for the 23rd September litter pick including some new people, which is always great. Thank you to everyone who came along. The litter situation has not been too bad this time but there were still bags of rubbish collected.

Following on from this we also had a scrub clearance work party on the 26th. This was not well supported as we were a team of two along with Charlie from the Wildlife Trust.
The weather had not been good earlier in the morning, which may have put some people off but it stopped raining just before 10.00 and stayed dry.
We did manage to clear a reasonable patch around the Heathland restoration area. We also saw quite a lot of wildlife whilst we were working - including a toad, an orb spider and a few rooks who kept an eye on what we were doing.

Our next Scrub clearance are on 10th and 24th October so if you have one or two hours to spare then come and join us. The Wildlife Trust will be on site between 10.00 - 2.00pm we as volunteers will gather at 10.00 and do as much or as little as we feel we enjoy before going for coffee and tea at the church hall.
We meet at the church hall or 10.00 on the heathland if you prefer - take the path on the hill opposite the playing field and head up to the site as shown with the yellow dot on the second picture.
