Cooking is a great activity to keep kids entertained over half-term. It’s also a great chance to teach them about fire safety in the kitchen.
When you’re cooking, remember:
Never leave cooking unattended
Clear your cooking area, remove towels or other items that could catch fire
Use timers and thermostats to ensure food doesn’t burn
Turn the handles of your pots and pans on the hob inward, so they aren’t accidentally knocked over.

Is your child playing with fire? (Literally!) A small fire can start in seconds – but the consequences can last a lifetime. What might seem like harmless curiosity or ‘something to do’ with friends can quickly turn into something much more serious.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service work closely with the police and partner organisations to identify and respond to deliberate fire setting in our communities. Patrols take place in known hotspots, and individuals involved can be held accountable for their actions.

We’re asking parents and carers to have open, honest conversations with children about the risks.
Even if they’re part of a group, choosing to set fires or being present when it happens – can still lead to serious consequences.

Please remind children:
Never to play with fire
To leave the area immediately if a fire is started
To tell a trusted adult
To call 999 if a fire starts

Fire setting can put lives at risk, harm wildlife and the environment, and have lasting impacts on those involved.

Warwickshire Fire and Rescue Service extends its heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of those affected following the tragic incident at Kingsbury Water Park on Monday 25 May.
We recognise the impact this will have on the local community, and our thoughts remain with everyone affected at this very difficult time.

As we move into the warmer months, we encourage everyone to stay safe when spending time outdoors. Open water can present a range of hidden risks, even in good weather, so it’s important to take care and be aware of your surroundings. Please follow any local safety guidance when near water.

If you see someone in difficulty in the water:
Call 999 immediately
Encourage the person to float on their back
Avoid entering the water yourself - look for something you can use to help from the shore such as a throw line.

The weather is warming up and you might be tempted to cool off in water, but danger could be lurking under the surface! Even on warm days, the water can still be very cold and cold water shock is highly dangerous. We experience in increase in call-outs to water-related incidents in the summer months. Please help us to keep you safe and avoid entering bodies of water.

Would you know what to do if you got into trouble in the water?
Float to Live:
Tilt your head back and submerge your ears
Relax and try to control your breathing - Move your hands to help you stay afloat - It’s OK if your legs sink, everyone floats differently
Once you are over the initial shock, call for help or swim to safety.

In a coastal emergency dial 999 or 112 for the coastguard.
