Today marks Learning Disability Week - this year’s theme, “Do You See Me?”, is all about making sure people with a learning disability are truly seen, heard, valued and included.

Led by Mencap, the week celebrates the achievements and talents of people with learning disabilities, while shining a light on the barriers many still face.

At our supported living schemes, we’re marking the week with a community BBQ, where the people we support will be involved in planning, preparing and enjoying the day together.

We’re proud to support people to live full, meaningful lives through person-centred care and access to opportunities.

As we cheer for our favourite teams in the World Cup, let's also raise our voices against domestic abuse.

Statistics show that incidents of domestic abuse can rise by up to 38% when a favourite football team loses.

This tournament, we’re standing in solidarity and raising awareness for those who need our support.

If you're a BCHG tenant who is a survivor of domestic abuse, please get in touch with us on [email protected]

This week highlights two important issues that often go hand in hand – the dangers of illegal money lending and the impact financial pressure can have on our mental wellbeing.

How to spot the signs of a loan shark (illegal money lender):
• No paperwork or unclear terms
• Taking valuables (like bank cards, passports or benefits cards) as security
• Threatening behaviour or intimidation
• Increasing debts unfairly or charging excessive interest
• Keeping track of payments in informal ways (e.g. notes, memory only)

Taking a loan from an illegal lender can quickly spiral out of control and cause significant stress, anxiety and worry. Financial strain doesn’t just affect your bank balance – it can impact your sleep, mood, relationships and overall wellbeing. It’s completely okay to ask for help.

We’re here to support you - if you’re struggling to pay your rent, please don’t ignore it and speak to us. We can:
• Work with you to set up a manageable payment plan
• Offer advice and guidance to help you stay on track
• Signpost you to additional support services if needed

You’re not alone. Reaching out early can make a real difference.
