Big change of mind - but no change for the moment in local government in East Hampshire - as you were! Some may feel we may have wasted a lot of time and money!

Proposals to merge smaller councils to form larger authorities have been paused or withdrawn in a number of areas.

John visits the Hampshire Astronomy Group at the Clanfield Observatory on Hinton Manor Lane. John has given £2000 of his councillor grant this year to support the development of more accessible toilet facilities to allow more people to be able to visit the observatory. John met with the group chairman Steve and group President Richard (along with several members of the supporting team). He was given a tour of the site and told of the range activities that happen there ( see https://hantsastro.org.uk/ for more information). A great afternoon at a great facility close to Clanfield; please let them know if you would like to get involved with this (contact details on the web-site).

Clanfield pond, please note the below from Hampshire County Council - EH918 – North Lane, Clanfield – Pond Works

As part of Hampshire County Council’s annual Planned Maintenance programme, this letter is to inform you that we will be undertaking pond de-silting works in North Lane between Charlton Lane and Hogs Lodge Lane.

The works are programmed to start on Friday 21st August 2026 with vegetation removal, and recommence Monday 24th August with pond de-silting, which is expected to last for up to 2 days. During each operation, the road will be closed to vehicular traffic between 07:30 – 18:00hrs. The road will be open outside of these working times. Local access will be maintained for residents and commercial premises where possible.

Whilst there is an allowance within the time periods shown above for delays, there may be times when we have to postpone works at very short notice; based on the latest weather forecasts, this can occur just prior to works commencing. We will always look to provide up to date information wherever we can, but sometimes these last-minute decisions can be difficult to relay to the travelling public in a timely manner. When we can, any significant changes to the scheduled dates will be made clear on the yellow sign boards located at the works limits.

For your safety and that of our workforce, we are unable to guarantee vehicular

access to and from your property during the road closure. Should you need to make an essential journey, please contact a member of the workforce in advance and they will be able to advise if they can accommodate your request. Pedestrian access will be available at all times.

For further details of how the road closure may affect your access please visit our website – www.hants.gov.uk/roadworks.
