Romsey Library - Hampshire County Council Books, audio books, adult learning courses, free computer access, sessions for adults and children

Romsey Library is housed in an Old Boy's School of Gothic styled architecture built in 1872 by Romsey Parishioner, William Cowper Temple MP. The Library moved from Romsey Town Hall to this site, opening on 5th December 1968. In 2006 the Library was sympathetically extended and refurbished. The new interior complements the historic architectural features by exposing the restored fireplace in the main library and highlighting the Gothic style windows with commissioned textile art.

Anthony Horowitz knew from a very early age, without doubt, that he would be a writer.

He has had a varied career, writing over 50 books. His most famous and successful books are the hugely popular teenage spy series ‘Alex Rider’. The first book, Stormbreaker, was written in 2000, and the series is still going strong and includes graphic novel editions, a film and a TV series.

He gets his inspiration everywhere, even walking the dog. He has been fortunate to travel a lot and has visited as many of the locations in his books as possible, to get a sense of place, but also new ideas. His advice for aspiring young writers? Read a lot! Enjoy your writing and never give up.

Today we have 'Darling Pol: the letters of Mary Wesley and Eric Siepmann, 1944-1967'.

Before her death in 2002, Mary Wesley told her biographer Patrick Marnham: 'after I met Eric I never looked at anyone else again. We lived our ups and downs but life was never boring'. Eric Siepmann was her second husband and their correspondence - lively, intimate, passionate, frustrated - charted their life together (and apart) with unusual candour and spirit. Marnham suggests that through these letters Mary, who famously blossomed as a novelist in her seventies, a decade after Eric's death, found her voice.
