Last night, we lost our beloved cousin sister, who sadly passed away whilst on a short visit to Pakistan.

She was an extraordinary, loving and kindhearted person, with a heart of gold. She had been there throughout so much of my life and watched me grow into the person I am today. She always stood by me, supported me and encouraged me.

Earlier this year, when I launched my campaign in Milkstone and Deeplish Ward, she was there in the front row, proudly supporting me. Those memories will remain with me forever.

Her passing is truly devastating, above all for her beloved husband, children and grandchildren, but also for the many people whose lives she touched with her kindness, warmth and love.

May Allah SWT forgive her shortcomings, shower her with His mercy and elevate her to the highest ranks of Jannatul Firdaus, in the blessed companionship of Sayyida Fatima Zahra (SA).

May Allah grant patience and strength to her family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

Please remember her in your duas.

Ashfield Road has been left to deteriorate for far too long.

Despite our campaign for the road to be completely resurfaced, Labour-run Rochdale Council has placed Ashfield Road on the long list, meaning residents could potentially be waiting another two or three years before the work is carried out.

That is simply unacceptable.

Residents in Milkstone and Deeplish deserve better. They shouldn’t have to put up with worsening road conditions while being told to wait years for action.

But Councillor Minaam Ellahi and Councillor Mohammed Shafiq are not giving up. We will continue to put pressure on the council and fight for the full resurfacing that Ashfield Road needs.

In the coming weeks, we will be visiting residents across Ashfield Road personally, asking them to sign our petition so we can demonstrate the strength of feeling in our community and increase the pressure on the council to act.

Ashfield Road needs a full resurface not another promise to wait.

Congratulations to The Blessed Way and Neeli Mosque in Rochdale for hosting a hugely important and successful session, “Islamophobia, the Far Right and the Muslim Response.”

Councillor Minaam Ellahi and I were honoured to attend and listen to the important discussion about the challenges facing our communities and the need to stand united against Islamophobia, racism and the far right.

It was also a pleasure to meet , who did a magnificent job at the Oxford Union debate, standing up with courage and conviction against hatred and prejudice.

These conversations matter. We must continue to speak out, educate, organise and ensure that our communities are never intimidated into silence.
