🎪 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘆 𝗦𝗮𝗳𝗲 𝗮𝘁 𝗙𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗮𝗹𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿

Festival season is a time to enjoy music, friends and great experiences – but it’s important to stay aware of the risks linked to drug dealing and substance misuse. Tackling these issues remains a key priority locally, with a focus on preventing harm and keeping communities safe.

Events like Y Not Festival in Derbyshire are a fantastic part of the county’s summer – and everyone has a role to play in making sure they stay safe and enjoyable for all.

Illegal drugs can be unpredictable, with unknown strength or contents, and can pose serious risks to your health and safety. There is also a risk of exploitation from those involved in dealing.

Key festival safety tips:

🚫 Do not take substances offered – there is no guaranteed safe illegal drug
👥 Stick together with friends and agree a safe meeting point
🧠 Trust your instincts – if something doesn’t feel right, act
🩺 Use medical services if you’re worried about yourself or someone else

🤝 Know where to get support: Getting the right information can help you make safer choices. Talk to Frank offers free, confidential advice about drugs, including a dedicated festival guide with practical tips and what to do in an emergency:

With World Cup excitement building, the Police and Crime Commissioner Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts visited Ultra Warehouse, home to one of our region’s biggest screens, to see preparations in action.

With large crowds expected, the visit focused on how the venue will operate throughout the tournament to ensure people can enjoy the biggest event in football safely — while also promoting the Walk Away campaign, encouraging people to step away from conflict and violence before it escalates.

⚽ Big events should be about enjoyment, not confrontation.
🚶 If things start to feel heated, walking away is a simple way to keep situations from escalating.

Derbyshire’s roads – especially across the Peak District – are some of the most scenic and enjoyable in the UK, attracting riders from far and wide. But we also know motorcyclists remain among the most vulnerable road users, with a higher risk of serious or fatal collisions.

That’s why Derbyshire Constabulary have launched the ‘Own Your Ride’ campaign – giving riders the tools, skills and advice to stay safe, in control, and get home safely at the end of every journey. From expert-led BikeSafe workshops to practical tips via the Bikers’ Hub, the campaign is designed with bikers, for bikers to help everyone enjoy the roads responsibly.

While out and about in communities, PCC Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts and Deputy PCC Dr. Fatima Eltinay have been out speaking directly with residents and the motorbike community, listening to concerns and promoting safe and considerate riding. Their message is simple: we want everyone to be able to enjoy our roads – whether you’re riding, driving or living in these areas.

Let’s all play our part in keeping Derbyshire’s roads safe, welcoming and enjoyable for everyone.

✅ Stay aware
✅ Ride within your limits
✅ Respect other road users

Police and Crime Commissioner Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts has reaffirmed her commitment to supporting community-driven crime prevention with the distribution of new funding grants increase safety across Derbyshire.

A total of 14 Neighbourhood Watch (NHW) schemes across the city and county have received individual funding boosts to support their efforts to protect residents from becoming victims of crime and to make their communities more resistant to criminal activity.

The investment coincides with the launch of Neighbourhood Watch Week (June 1-7) – a national awareness event showcasing the contribution of NHW members across the country in giving back to their communities and celebrating the impact of their work on people’s lives.

In the latest round, NHW groups used the funding to support a wide range of activities to raise awareness of their work, boost membership and increase community engagement.

Police and Crime Commissioner Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts said: “Neighbourhood Watch groups are very important to our residents and the communities we serve.

These grants will help increase visibility of the work NHW deliver, and in partnership combine our efforts fight crime and protect our communities. Together, we will make Derbyshire safer, stronger and more inclusive, and I will continue to do everything I can to support this work.”

𝗣𝗖𝗖 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗸𝘀 𝘃𝗼𝗹𝘂𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝘃𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗹 𝘀𝘂𝗽𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 👏

Police and Crime Commissioner Nicolle Ndiweni-Roberts has paid tribute to the dedicated volunteers on her team and the hours of service they contribute to keep the public safe.

As the nation observes Volunteers’ Week (June 1-7), the Derbyshire PCC said unpaid volunteers remained integral to her vision for a safer, stronger and more inclusive county and praised their achievements in building trust and confidence in policing services.

At a special celebration event this week the PCC personally thanked her volunteers for their hard work throughout the year and expressed her appreciation for the passion and dedication they invest in their duties.

There are currently 20 volunteers directly supporting the work of the Police and Crime Commissioner, regularly contributing hours of service over the past 12 months.

Many of the volunteers serve as Independent Custody Visitors (ICVs) and some have more than one scrutiny role. ICVs work as part of a team making unannounced visits to police custody suites where people are brought and held following arrest.

They check how well detainees in custody are being treated and report their findings back to the ICV scheme manager to ensure the PCC can action any recommendations for improvement.

Other volunteers sit on the PCC’s Stop and Search Scrutiny Panel and around five are members of the county’s Animal Welfare Scheme (AWS), who undertake a similar role to ICVs to ensure Derbyshire’s police dogs are cared for appropriately.

Nine volunteers currently sit on the PCC’s Custody Detention Scrutiny Panel. On this panel, members receive unprecedented access to material retained by the police to scrutinise a range of different custody areas such as policies and procedures, use of force and disproportionality, and report their findings back to the Commissioner.
