Did you get a drone for Christmas?

Whether you opened one on Christmas morning, or you’ve had one for a while and enjoyed a flight over the festive season, they can be great fun.

The law has very recently been updated around drones, so make sure you’re in the know and don’t get caught out.

The full details can be found on the Civil Aviation Authority website: https://orlo.uk/fErLX

Chief Pilot for the Derbyshire Constabulary Drone Team, PC Matt Moore, said: “We want everyone to enjoy flying their drones and to do so in a safe way.

“Flying should be fun, and knowing the basic regulations, what you need to do to fly your drone and where you can fly them legally will help keep this an enjoyable experience for everyone.

“We’d urge all drone users to check their drones, who will be flying them and take any necessary tests or actions before the next flight.”

⚖️ Does your drone weigh over 100g? Pilots will now need to take a theory test on the Civil Aviation Authority website to obtain a Flyer ID.
📸 Does your done have a camera? You must register with the CAA to get an Operator ID, in addition to a Flyer ID, which will identify who is responsible for the drone.
🧒 Does your child under 13 have a drone? Children under 13 years of age, who will be flying the drone, must obtain a Flyer ID and have a parent or guardian present when they take their theory test.
👨‍👩‍👧 Does your child under 12 have a drone? Children under 12 years of age must be supervised by someone over the age of 16 when flying drones. Parents or guardians are required to obtain an Operator ID.

Remember to also attach your contact details to your drone in case it gets lost, and most importantly, fly safely and enjoy!

Our officers are usually on hand most games and will deal with any incursions. This operator failed to register his drone, flew BVLOS and over a crowd causing disruption to the playoff game. Please fly responsibly and within the limitations of the category you are flying in.

A man from Chesterfield has been charged with several offences in connection with a drone being flown over a football match.

Lewis Franks, of Allsops Place in Chesterfield, is due to appear at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court on 8 June.

The 27-year-old has been charged with flying a drone above assemblies of people, flying beyond visual line of sight, failing to register as a drone operator and failing to display Operator ID on the drone used by a remote pilot.

Those charges are in connection with an incident at Chesterfield Football Club’s Technique Stadium at 5.20pm on Sunday 7 May when the match referee took the players off the pitch after a drone was spotted flying above the stadium.

We still have high flooding around areas of Derbyshire for our Force and partner agencies to deal with. We have been out around Darley Dale where the River Derwent looks more like an ocean. Please be safe

This is why I love Derbyshire. Whilst out on deployment today we had some unexpected visitors.
