We were blessed with much nicer weather than last week thankfully and were joined by a brilliant array of smiling faces 😁

Moors Valley parkrun #473

It was a rather damp start to the weekend at Moors Valley, with the rain making a determined appearance for today’s parkrun. Despite the conditions, 4️⃣5️⃣5️⃣ people made it to the finish, including 7️⃣6️⃣ first timers, with 3️⃣6️⃣ participants recording new personal bests.

A big thank you to all of today’s volunteers. Giving up your Saturday morning is always appreciated, but standing out on the course in the rain so that parkrun could go ahead deserves particular recognition today!

Your support, encouragement and willingness to get wet helped make sure everyone could enjoy their parkrun. Thank you for being there.

And finally, well done to everyone who attended today; whether you ran, jogged, walked or volunteered. The weather may not have been on our side, but it was great to see so many people turning up and making the most of Saturday morning.

Event #472

Another Saturday morning in the forest saw 5️⃣2️⃣9️⃣ people walk, jog and run their way around Moors Valley parkrun, including 91 first timers. We hope everyone enjoyed their morning with us, and a warm welcome to all those visiting Moors Valley for the first time.

We were pleased to welcome parkrun tourists from near and far. Thank you for choosing Moors Valley for your Saturday morning parkrun.

A special mention to everyone celebrating a birthday or anniversary today. We hope you had a great start to your special day and enjoyed celebrating with us.

Today's event was made possible by 4️⃣3️⃣ volunteers, and we want to say a big thank you to every one of you for giving up your time to make parkrun happen.

From arriving early to set up the course, marshalling, timing, scanning, managing the finish funnel and helping to pack everything away, every role is important and appreciated. We couldn't put on Moors Valley parkrun without you.

If you've never volunteered before, why not give it a go? There are plenty of different roles, full support is given, and it's a great way to see parkrun from a different perspective. Speak to the team at a future event if you'd like to get involved.

‼️‼️ TRAFFIC CONGESTION & DELAYS ‼️‼️

Traffic around Moors Valley is likely to be very congested and heavy tomorrow (if today is anything to go by) causing some delays due to ongoing works, diversions and festival traffic.

If you are planning a trip to MV parkrun by car tomorrow please allow plenty of time (it’ll be worse going home). Or maybe consider visiting us another week, when traffic is likely to be less chaotic.

Moors Valley parkrun #471

What a brilliant morning at Moors Valley!

492 people completed the course today, including 74 first timers and an amazing 40 PBs.

We were delighted to welcome 43 hi-viz heroes who helped make today happen, with some fantastic volunteer milestones celebrated too.

There were plenty of parkrun milestones to celebrate, and a special mention to Ben Scott for completing his number 5️⃣0️⃣0️⃣with us today. Congratulations to everyone who reached a milestone or achieved a new PB!

Today we welcomed visitors from Hexham Tyne Green, Cape Town, Cardiff, Wales, Sydney, Jo'burg, Southend and Stockholm. A special mention to Will from Wales, who was taking part in his very first ever parkrun!

We hope everyone enjoyed the course, the beautiful surroundings, it was lovely to have you all with us!

Finally the most important thing left to do is say a HUGE thank you to our wonderful volunteers!

Our event simply couldn't happen without you. From setting up the course and scanning barcodes, to marshalling, timing, tail walking and all the jobs in between, every volunteer plays a vital part in making Moors Valley parkrun happen safely and welcoming everyone each week.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who gave up their time this morning to make #471 possible. You really are the heart of parkrun!

At this time of year we gladly welcome visitors to our wonderful forest. However, as you may have seen in the news, there's been a large fire along the A31 through Hampshire and into Dorset.

It has just been confirmed, statement below from National Highways, that the A31 will remain closed this weekend (15 & 16 August). If you are thinking about visiting us, please check your travel routes as surrounding roads are very busy with all the diverted traffic 🛻🚧🚒

Moors Valley parkrun #470

The summer holidays are now well and truly underway, and Moors Valley welcomed visitors from Okehampton, Sleaford, Bury, Rushmoor, Portsmouth, Yeovil, Basingstoke, Belton House, St Albans and Bromley. We hope you enjoyed your visit and had a great morning with us.

There was plenty to celebrate this week too. Sophie celebrated her 16th birthday, while Phil reached 250 volunteer milestones and Richard an impressive 300! Huge congratulations to all three, and a big thank you to Phil and Richard for the countless hours they have given to Moors Valley parkrun 🧡🌟

Charlotte Whatley was also with us, putting her Great North Run outfit through its paces. This involved practising running with a rather impressive, and rather massive, breast strapped to her back. Quite the training session, and hopefully good preparation for the big day.

Our resident swans and ducks were also keeping a close eye on proceedings from their usual lakeside position, particularly the finish funnel. We suspect they were there to make sure nobody attempted any funnel ducking...🤣

As always, our volunteers were brilliant. From those out around the course to everyone working in the finish area, you helped our participants enjoy their morning and made sure everything ran smoothly and safely. Moors Valley parkrun simply wouldn’t happen without you. A massive thank you to you all! 🦺🙌

Another beautiful sunny Saturday brought us together for Moors Valley parkrun event number 469, and what a fantastic morning it was.

We were joined by some lovely feathered spectators, with ducks making an appearance to cheer everyone on alongside the amazing atmosphere created by our parkrun community.

A huge congratulations to everyone celebrating milestone achievements:

It was wonderful to celebrate these fantastic achievements with you all 🌟

We also welcomed visitors from Reading, London, Dover, Romsey, Coventry, Wigan, Alton, Bristol and Birmingham, along with Suzanne and Emily from Crane Park and Jack from Black Park. We hope you enjoyed your visit to Moors Valley and look forward to welcoming you back again soon.

Despite another warm morning, 624 finishers crossed the line, all supported by Matt as Run Director and an amazing team of 43 volunteers who made sure everything ran safely and smoothly. Thank you to every single one of you, especially those who stepped in on the day to help with the barcode scanning rush and others who stayed behind afterwards to sort finish tokens. We appreciate your support 🙏

Moors Valley parkrun only happens because people like you choose to volunteer. There are no paid staff, no secret army of high-vis superheroes waiting in the wings, just members of our fantastic community giving up a little of their Saturday morning so everyone else can enjoy theirs.

We're already looking ahead to next week and we'd really love to get the roster filled nice and early. If you've ever thought, "I should give volunteering a go one day," we'd love that day to be next Saturday. Every role is fully supported, no experience is needed, and you'll be joining a brilliant team.
