π¨π This evening we attended a Domestic Property Fire which was caused by an E-Scooter while on charge. π₯π
π The occupants of the property were not at home at the time but after hearing the Smoke Alarms sounding, a neighbour was able to raise the alarm.
The Smoke Alarms sounding and the quick thinking neighbour undoubtedly prevented the fire from spreading.
π₯ π΄ Fires involving E-Scooters and E-Bikes are on the rise, so please take the necessary precautions to help prevent a fire:
β‘οΈ Never charge batteries whilst you are asleep or away from home.
β‘οΈ When purchasing an e-bike or e-scooter only choose a branded, genuine product from a reputable retailer you can trust.
β‘οΈ Do not overcharge your battery. Once fully charged, unplug.
β‘οΈ Donβt overload your sockets.
β‘οΈ Charge the device away from your planned escape route.
β‘οΈ Ensure you have a smoke alarm fitted on each level of your home, including the room where the battery is being charged.
β‘οΈ Always use the charger that was provided with the device and if you need a spare or replacement, buy one from the same manufacturer.
β‘οΈ Do not use if the e-bike/e-scooter if the battery appears physically damaged
β‘οΈ If a battery is not holding charge, gets hot, bulges or you hear hissing noises β unplug immediately.
π₯ If there are any signs of fire, raise the alarm immediately, get out, stay out and dial 999. πβοΈπ
