📣 Hambleton and Richmondshire – We Need Your Voice!

I’m really pleased to share that North Yorkshire Police are looking for new members to join our Independent Advisory Groups within Hambleton and Richmondshire (IAGs).

IAG members play a vital role in shaping local policing by offering honest feedback, sharing community perspectives, and helping us better understand the issues that matter to you.
We’re looking for people from all backgrounds, experiences and communities across Hambleton and Richmond.
We will also have guest speakers attending from different departments within North Yorkshire Police, along with partner agencies we work closely alongside.

You don’t need any special qualifications, the only requirement is being able to receive, send emails and join our on-line meetings which will occur quarterly.

👥Our next meeting will be held on Thursday 10th September 2026 at 1800-1930hours.

It's that time of the year again... 🗓️ 👇

As a lot of our local schools go back to school next week, you may be out and about this weekend doing some last minute shopping. Whilst you're there, why not pop in to see us at Tesco? PCSO 5725 Coburn will be hosting a 'Back To School' drop in event at Tesco where she will be on hand to talk to parents and young people in our community about anything that may be concerning you. Whether that's parking at school times, antisocial behaviour, or even just a general query you have for us, feel free to come along and have a chat.

Can you help? We're still looking for information following this burglary…

Last week we put out an appeal for information about a burglary from a rural property near the village of Barton. We've now got an image of the vintage Stihl chainsaw.

The burglary overnight of Monday 24 August into Tuesday 25 August and involved the theft of tools from a shed.

We’re particularly appealing for information about any suspicious behaviour or cars that were witnessed in the area during this timeframe.

Also, if you have any information regarding the below stolen items, or have been offered or seen for sale these items over the last week:
a vintage Stihl chainsaw
a Stihl backpack leaf blower
a Husqvarna 120 chainsaw
a large Stihl with an 18-inch bar
a Von Haus extendable hedge trimmer
a grey Switzer compactor plate
a smaller Stihl strimmer
a Dolman brush cutter

The picture below shows the knives and sharp objects that have been safely removed from our streets and disposed of in July and August from the knife amnesty bin in Colburn. This facility allows members of the public to safely and anonymously dispose of bladed articles, whether you have everyday kitchen knives that you're replacing, or more concerning weapons. There are 20 locations across North Yorkshire where this facility is available. The nearest for Richmondshire are:

Appeal following an incident near Leyburn ⬇️

We are appealing for information after a flock of sheep were attacked by an unknown dog outside of Harmby village near Leyburn.

It happened sometime between 7pm on Tuesday 25 August and 9am on Wednesday 26 August, and involved the dog entering a field and killing a sheep as well as injuring ten others.

The ten sheep have been left with various bite marks, and the sheep that was killed was bitten on the neck and received a serious injury to one of its back legs.
