This is my contribution.

"County Councillor Angela Davies.
I am sure we are all relieved that the Senedd elections are over. I send my personal congratulations to all the successful candidates but also thanks to all who stood to represent our area. We are lucky that so many do wish to take on what I imagine would be a very challenging role.

It is very exciting news that the Kings Baton Relay is coming through the town on Sunday 21st June ahead of the commonwealth games, which are to be held in Glasgow from 23rd July to 2nd August. Each of the 74 nations & territories of the Commonwealth will have their own unique baton featuring a different word. The 74 words together will form a message to be read by His Majesty the King at the opening ceremony. The Welsh baton will have the word COMMUNITY.

I feel this is very appropriate for our town, as Rhayader is a wonderful community, we have pride and a strong sense of belonging. Living in Rhayader means you are a part of a large and supportive family. The many residents who give their time volunteering to support others (individuals, groups and societies) across the town is testimony to this.

It is also great news to read about all the grant funding that is coming into the town. Congratulations to members of St Clements Church for securing a substantial grant towards essential repairs to the church tower.

Also, to Rhayader Town Council, you may have spotted lovely new signs being erected around town, and works are underway to improve and secure the future of both Dark Lane and Cwmdauddwr public toilets.
We are also working to secure planning approval to allow proposed works under the High Street Improvement grants to begin.
Funding was also received for much needed works to resurface the road across the Weirglodd and more funding to open the frontage of the bus shelter in Cwmdauddwr, (we hope this will deter antisocial behaviour).

I’d like to say a special thank you to the Town Council clerk Mrs Julie Stephens for all her work and support in helping to deliver these projects – as the saying goes ‘You have to be in it, to win it’ and Rhayader is certainly winning in delivering a wide range of projects across the town.

RABI’s Return to School Grant opens Monday 15 June at 12pm, offering £200 per school-aged child aged 4–16 to support farming families with back-to-school costs.

There are 4,000 grants available across two phases:

➡️ Phase 2 opens Monday 29 June

We expect demand to be high, so we encourage eligible applicants to prepare in advance and apply as soon as the portal opens.

The refuse & recycling dept. are continuing to struggle with manpower & machinary is issues.
They are working hard to catch up.

I've just received notification that due to high volumes of recycling put out today, the lorry was too full to collect from all areas of Rhayader. Please leave your boxes out the crew will pick it up tomorrow.

The Temporary Road Closure: C1206 ELAN VALLEY, RHAYADER, LD6 5HS (5-7 June 2026) will be completed between 5-7 June 2026, due to unforeseen weather conditions works were not quite completed previously.

Short Term Notice
The County of Powys
County classified Road C1206 ELAN VALLEY, RHAYADER, LD6 5HS.
Temporary Prohibition of Vehicles.
Powys County Council gives notice that from 25-27 March 2026 (8am-8pm), a traffic order is prohibiting any vehicular traffic from proceeding a length of the C1206 ELAN VALLEY, RHAYADER, LD6 5HS.
The closure is on behalf of Powys County Council, while they do resurfacing works.
Residents access will be maintained via diversion.
Emergency vehicles access will be maintained via diversion.
The alternative route will be signposted.
