☀️ The summer holidays can be an exciting time for children, and our residential teams have been working extra hard to make them extra special for the young people we support.

For our residential homes, the summer started with careful planning, as staff supported children through different school finishing dates, ensuring the transition into the holiday period went smoothly. From there, the focus turned to making memories! Days spent outdoors, kite flying in the sunshine and exploring local opportunities, all of which have helped fill the holidays with fun and new experiences!

Along the way, colleagues have shared ideas and opportunities that made activities accessible and enjoyable, demonstrating the teamwork and creativity that help make our homes such positive places for children.

As the new school term approaches, our staff are once again supporting children through another important transition, helping them feel confident and ready for the new school term! 📚

✨ Behind every activity and each adventure is a dedicated team helping children feel supported to be ready for what's next.

We’ve had an amazing August, as our social media channels have been packed with events, celebrations and employee recognition! Check out our highlights below!

💖 We highlighted the wonderful our Programme Support Team, who spent a tiring but rewarding day volunteering at Nunsuch Park in Sutton. The team volunteering day was made possible through our Employee Volunteering Scheme! The scheme is an amazing perk, that allows our staff take an agreed amount of paid time off to give back to the community.

🎊We celebrated one of our children’s residential homes based in West Surrey, for being rated**‘Outstanding’ in all areas by Ofsted**. This is a fantastic achievement and a powerful reflection of the dedication, care and commitment shown by the home’s residential staff and leadership team. A huge congratulations to everyone involved and thank you for everything you do!

👶 We shared about an fantastic community event, as Guildford Family Centre recently hosted its very first Community Baby Shower! The event provided an opportunity for expectant parents and families with young babies to access a wealth of information, connect with professionals, and learn more about the support available to them within their community.

🏺We shone a spotlight on an exciting project, Communities at the River: Fetcham Springs Archaeology Project! This is a five-year initiative led by the Surrey County Archaeological Unit, exploring, protecting and sharing the nationally significant heritage of Fetcham Springs. The project provides opportunities for local people, schools and community groups to get involved in archaeological excavations, training and events, helping to uncover and celebrate Surrey's rich past!

What a busy month it's been! Stay tuned for more exciting updates and autumn stories ahead!

Personal Coaches from our Transition Team recently visited Merrist Wood College to learn more about the latest prospects, enrolment pathways and student support available through Activate Learning. 🌟

Visits like these help our teams stay informed and ensure we're able to provide young people with the most up-to-date guidance as they explore their next steps into education, training or employment. Reflecting on the visit, Senior Personal Coach Afeera says:

💬 “It was great to catch up and hear about the exciting developments at the college, as well as the range of opportunities and support available to help young people explore their post-16 options. We also had the chance to meet some of the wonderful animals on site, including a very friendly horse! It’s fantastic to see the unique learning environment and hands-on opportunities available to students. We look forward to continuing to work together to support young people in making informed choices about their futures”.

Thank you to the team at Merrist Wood College for an informative visit and for continuing to work alongside us to create positive futures for Surrey's young people.

Our staff are always looking for new ways to create positive experiences for the young people they support in our residential children's homes. 🏡

The team recently organised a Cultural Food Week, giving children the opportunity to explore different cuisines from around the world, try new foods and learn about different cultures. Portuguese night proved to be the biggest hit! The fun continued with a Bake-Off competition, where everyone was recognised for their efforts, with awards for taste, design, creativity and more. 🍰

These activities are about much more than food. They're about building confidence, developing life skills and creating positive experiences for the young people we support. It's a wonderful example of the care, creativity and commitment our staff bring to their roles every day. 👏

✨ If you’re passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people, there’s never been a better time to explore a career in children’s residential care with Surrey.
