Fire Call 📟 27/02/2026, 20:45
Mobilised to fire in residential property, White Friars Close, Richmond.
Along with our colleagues from Richmond and Leyburn we attended fire to a garage adjoining a residential property. Crews tackled the fire from within the property to prevent fire spread from the garage. 2x hose reel jets, six breathing apparatuses and thermal imaging cameras to extinguish and dampen down the area. Thorough thermal check of the property to establish no further fire spread. Cause is believed to be from faulty batteries.

Smoke alarms save lives..

In more than a third of fires in the home, smoke didn’t reach an alarm in time. Get more alarms in your home.

Here's some tips:

You should fit a smoke alarm on each level of your home and test the battery regularly, by pressing the test button until the alarm sounds.

Do not put alarms in or near kitchens or bathrooms where smoke or steam can set them off by accident. The ideal position is on the ceiling, in the middle of a room, and on the hallway and landing, so you can hear the alarm throughout your home.

Replace the batteries in your smoke alarms every year if it has removable batteries.

🚨Remember working smoke alarms save lives!

🚨 Thursday drill night 🚒

IEC (immediate emergency care) update and scenario incorporating swift water rescue and drowning.
We have updates on all areas of first aid and emergency care throughout the year to keep skills sharp and up to date.

Also, last week, Jack and Will have been away learning to swim on their initial Swift Water Rescue training. Well done to both for passing the course and achieving their swimming badges 🏊‍♂️😉

Big thanks to Jon for the training input. Fantastic as always!

Investigation into the biggest wildfire North Yorkshire has ever seen has just been published by North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service
in short the cause of the Langdale fire summer 2026 is believed to be cooking using a naked flame, such as a campfire or gas burner...
The cost financially, environmentally, emotionally and in sheer effort was colossal.

Today we’ve shared our investigation into the Langdale/ Fylingdales Moor wildfire.

Following extensive enquiries the cause of the fire is believed to be cooking using a naked flame, such as a campfire or gas burner.

The fire was declared a major incident on 13 August and at its peak on 25 August, it covered an area of up to 25km².

Firefighters worked for a prolonged period in extremely challenging conditions to bring the incident under control. They were supported throughout by the communities of York and North Yorkshire.

CFO Jonathan Dyson said: “The fact that this fire is believed to have been started by cooking using a naked flame, is a stark reminder of how quickly wildfires can take hold, particularly in hot, dry and windy conditions. I urge everyone who visits the countryside to follow safety advice to help prevent further wildfires and protect our landscapes, including respecting restrictions on camping and lighting barbecues/ campfires, taking litter home and carefully disposing of smoking materials.”

The photo shows the area where investigators believe the fire first started.

You can find more advice about the prevention of wildfires in the comments.

Roof ladder drills
Slip & pitch 10.5 ladder and set up roof ladder with crew using working at height PPE. Our newest crew member Ben, honing skills setting this drill up and the rest of the crew getting hands on. Bit of a grim night of weather but worthwhile training in these conditions.
Thanks to Dales Bike Centre for allowing us to use their cafe building for the training. Reeth crew are always on the look out for venues for all types of training. If you can help us out with a possible training venue we'd love to hear from you. DM us here

Fire Call 📟 8/01/2026, 16:34
Mobilised to a dog trapped on rocks in the river below Kisdon Force, Keld.
On arrival at Keld and directed by one of the dog owners two of Reeth crew located the other dog owner keeping the dog calm as it was trapped on an island in a powerful flow of water. The dog called ‘Wulf’ had fallen around 150ft off a cliff into the river and amazingly scrambled onto big rocks that created an island. Due to the extremely difficult access crew requested Swaledale Mountain Rescue Team assistance. Thanks to local farmer an access route down very steep ground was found on the opposite river bank and two crew members managed to reach within a few metres downstream of the dogs location. Crew got ready with extending reach pole in case the dog decided to enter the water. Wulf having been on the rocks for a few hours and now in total darkness entered the fast flowing water. Our crew member Jack ready with the extending reach pole managed to hook the dog and pull him to safety. Once in the hands of crew they warmed the dog up in a fire tunic and waited for arrival Swaledale Mountain Rescue. Having set up rope system Team members assisted everyone out safely. Wulf was reunited with owners after a 2km carry by crew with everyone safely back to Keld. After a visit to the vets it was later confirmed Wulf was fine but a little subdued from the experience. Huge thanks to Swaledale Mountain Rescue for their assistance in bringing this incident to a successful and safe close.

Keep Your Home Safe 🔌

Electrical Fire Safety – Keep Your Home Safe 🔌
Every year, many house fires are caused by damaged, faulty or misused electrical items. The good news? Most electrical fires can be prevented with a few simple checks and good habits:
• Check whether your electrical products have been recalled via https://www.gov.uk/guidance/product-recalls-and-alerts
• Register your appliances so you’re notified of any safety repairs or recalls: www.registermyappliance.org.uk
• Avoid overloading plug sockets – stick to one plug per socket where possible.
• Keep appliances clean and well-maintained. Watch out for blown fuses, tripping circuit-breakers or flickering lights.
• Regularly inspect cables and plugs for fraying, scorch marks or loose fittings before using any appliance.
• Switch appliances off at the socket when not in use, especially before bed or when going out (except those designed to stay on, like freezers).
• Only buy chargers from reputable sellers. Cheap imports often fail UK safety standards and can cause fires.
• Recycle electricals properly. If it lights up, moves, buzzes, or heats up, it contains a battery—never put these in the bin. Remove batteries where possible and recycle them separately, or recycle the whole item safely. Use the Recycle Your Electricals Locator to find your nearest drop-off point. https://recycleyourelectricals.org.uk/electrical-recycling-near-me/
• Fit smoke alarms on every level of your home and test them regularly.

A really important safety message regarding frozen ponds, rivers or open water.
Stay safe folks!

We’ve had reports of young people playing on frozen ponds. It might look fun, but it’s extremely dangerous. Please do not go onto ice-covered lakes, ponds, or rivers – it’s not safe!
Ice can appear thick near the edge but gets thinner toward the middle.
Falling into icy water can cause hypothermia very quickly, making it hard to get out.
If a dog or animal falls through, do not go after them – if the ice didn’t hold them, it won’t hold you. Call 999 for help.

Top Safety Tips:
• Never venture onto frozen water – it can crack without warning
• Adults: set a good example by staying off the ice
• Don’t throw sticks or balls onto the ice for dogs
• If you see someone in trouble, call 999 immediately
• If you can help safely, use a rope, branch, or clothing – but stay clear of the water

Please share this message to spread the word!
