Do You See Me? 🌟

his Learning Disability Week, we're celebrating the people, stories, and experiences that make our communities stronger.

Through Mencap's Our Active Community project, Peter has discovered the positive impact that being active can have on both physical and mental wellbeing, while also building confidence and creating opportunities to connect with others.

πŸ—¨οΈ Peter says: "I like the sessions and I feel good when I exercise, it keeps you fit (...) I want to be a sports coach one day. If there were no multi-sports, I would stay at home and wouldn’t get to see my friends. I feel really good at the group. The staff at multi-sports let me referee the matches the group plays and the leaders of the sessions listen to me."

For Peter, taking part in activities isn't just about keeping active: it's about having choices, being listened to, developing new skills, and feeling part of something bigger.

The theme of Do You See Me?, reminds us of the importance of ensuring people with learning disabilities are seen, heard, and valued in our communities πŸ‘

Thank you, Peter, for sharing your story and helping us celebrate the power of inclusion ✨

Do You See Me? πŸ‘‹

This year's Learning Disability Week 2026 theme, 'Do You See Me?', is about making sure people with learning disabilities are seen, heard, and valued for who they are. It's about recognising strengths, championing inclusion, and ensuring everyone has the opportunity to live healthy, active, and fulfilling lives.

Meet Charlie, who takes part in Mencap's Our Active Community project in St Austell. For Charlie, being active has been about much more than exercise. Taking part in regular activities has helped him build confidence, develop new skills and feel more connected to others.

πŸ—¨οΈ Charlie says: "It felt great to join some new groups. I love football, it helped get me active and has brought my confidence back. It helps my feelings... it supports my emotions (...) I feel great now and I have changed my life around. It’s part of me now and being listened to makes me feel positive and happy.”

Physical activity can support both physical and mental wellbeing, but it can also create opportunities for friendship, independence, and a sense of belonging.

Stories like Charlie's highlight why it's so important people with learning disabilities have the opportunity to be seen, heard, and included in our communities πŸ‘

Thank you for sharing your experience with us, Charlie! ✨

Royal Cornwall Show – Saturday Closure

It is with great regret that following a thorough assessment of forecast weather conditions and their impact on the showground, the difficult decision has been taken to cancel the final day of the Royal Cornwall Show on Saturday.

The safety and wellbeing of our visitors, exhibitors, competitors, members, staff, volunteers and contractors has been central to this decision and remains our highest priority.

We recognise how disappointing this news will be for everyone involved, particularly those who had planned to attend, exhibit or compete, and we would like to thank all our stakeholders for their patience, understanding and support.

Further information for ticket holders, exhibitors, competitors, members and other stakeholders will be communicated as soon as possible through the Royal Cornwall Show’s official channels.
