The Bromsgrove and Redditch Greens are out in force at Redditch Pride today πŸ³οΈβ€πŸŒˆ

There are parties that rage (cold, hot, and otherwise) against diversity and the freedom to love whomever you choose. We are not one of those parties.

In a world where it is still sometimes a crime to simply be yourself, we welcome and celebrate people as they are. And we have a really good time doing it.

Happy Pride! πŸ‘

🎡You put your right wing in, your right wing out
In, out, in, out, you're not very devout
You do the okey cokey but it's all for clout
That's what you're all about 🎢

Just a few days after the local elections, Jo Monk and her son Ashley Monk – who was elected as Reform councillor for Batchley and Brockhill – have been suspended from Reform. They haven't even been Reform members all that long, and now they're out again. What a hideous hokey cokey.

Reform absolutely knew about these issues before the election; they were well documented. Reform just happens to have waited until after the election to make the suspensions. Which is rather convenient, isn't it?

πŸ‘€ One of the councillors was suspended for, "bringing the party into disrepute," which, for a Reform member, is quite the achievement.

What an election campaign we've had! πŸ’ͺ

Over the past six weeks, Bromsgrove and Redditch Green Party has done the greenest thing of all: we have grown! From hitting over 400 members to doubling our vote share to 17% in the Redditch Borough Council Elections, it’s been quite the ride – and it’s only just beginning.

We couldn’t have done it all without our tireless candidates and activists, who have walked miles to deliver thousands of leaflets, knocked on hundreds of doors to chat with voters, shared our videos, attended our events, and spread the Green message of hope across Redditch. We may not have won any seats, but we have never had such a positive response locally and chatting to you all about Green ideas has been a joy.

A special shout out must go to Cllr Claire Davies for Webheath and Callow Hill, who has led the way for the Green movement in Redditch and will continue to inspire the rest of us.

This election has not been easy. Our opponents have not always played fair. From announcing sensationalist policies designed to frighten people into voting for them, to criticising our campaign online, other parties have shown how worried they are about the growing momentum of the Green Party. To this, we say: we’re not going anywhere. In the battle between hope and hate, we know hope will win eventually.

⏳ Now is a time for building. We’ll be developing our next election strategy and improving our vision for Bromsgrove, Redditch and villages across north Worcestershire. We need local people and their skills and wisdom to succeed. If you’re looking to find your people, and you’re all about a politics of hope, fairness and respect for our precious environment: come and join the Greens. We need you!

It's an exciting time to be a Green. We've never seen a vote share like this and we're only just getting started. To everyone who has voted for us and supported us: thank you.

And to everyone who will support us next time, because we know you're out there: we promise that the best is yet to come! πŸ’š

πŸ‘€ Local elections are open in Redditch and it really is too close to call, so please make your vote count!

Want to make the change of a lifetime in Redditch? Vote Green today for a fairer, greener Redditch Borough Council!

A vote for the Green Party on 7th May is a vote for councillors who will:

πŸ’š Protect our public services, including those at the Alexandra Hospital and Redditch police station

πŸ’š Fight for more affordable, accessible and energy efficient housing – built on brownfield sites, not our precious green belt

πŸ’š Rebuild our local economy by championing local businesses and thinking long term with new jobs in green industries

πŸ’š Listen to local communities and invite them to co-design council services

πŸ’š Maintain our parks and roads so that everyone can get around safely and enjoy our local area

When we say we want to make hope normal again, we mean it. We want a better Redditch and with your vote, we can make it happen πŸ’ͺ

If you’ve read the latest "illegal immigrant detention centre" policy announcement from Reform and felt uneasy about the direction it suggests, you’re not alone.

More and more people are looking for a politics rooted in fairness, climate action, and respect.

If that’s you and you’ve joined the Green Party of England and Wales β€” welcome, and thank you πŸ’š

If that's you and you're thinking about voting Green for the first time, we're privileged to have your support πŸ’š

If you’re still deciding, take a look at what we offer: real positive change, not division, hate and detention centres.

It may not feel like it – and some poll projections may not show it right now – but support for Reform is not as widespread as it seems.

🚨 A brand new survey from 38 Degrees suggests that 68% of the public are concerned that the £5 million donation Reform leader Nigel Farage received from crypto billionaire Christopher Harborne will give Harborne undue influence over Farage's political decisions.

🚨 50% of those concerned voted for Reform in the 2024 elections. Only 13% of the public have no concerns about Harborne's influence on Farage and Reform.

If you feel it's time for something new, we're right over here, working to make hope normal again: https://join.greenparty.org.uk/

Reform have once again forgotten that we're in the midst of local council elections, and are announcing what they would do if they won a general election. Because much like running Worcestershire County Council, Nigel has decided that having local plans for local areas is just a bit too much work to bother.

Reform's new pledge would involve putting their "migrant detention centres" in Green council areas, as those constituents will have "voted for open borders" (untrue, by the way).

A few questions for you, Nigel:

πŸ€” This plan seems to involve there being quite a few councils under Green control. You keep telling us Reform are going to dominate the local elections. So...which is it? Where will these detention centres go if Reform takes every council? Sounds like a vote for Reform is a bit risky there...

πŸ€” Who will be working in these detention centres, Nigel? Good luck getting people who vote Green to work in them. This just sounds like Reform voters will have to travel further to work (sounds expensive. Also not very green of you, guys. Sheesh).

πŸ€” How are you going to pay for this? Or is this yet another uncosted idea? Even the IFS says that your manifesto maths doesn't add up and you're already lumping costly new ideas onto it.

πŸ€” Why are all of your policies straight out of the MAGA playbook? It's hardly going well in the US; Trump's disapproval ratings just hit a record high, and the economy has stalled. Where is the unique plan the UK deserves?

All of Reform's ideas involve punishing someone, somewhere, for something. What happens when they run out of immigrants and Greens to punish? Do you really want to find out?

πŸ—¨οΈ Conversations we're having right now...

Elections provoke a lot of emotions. Alongside excitement for change, there can also be fear about the future.

We chat to lots of people about Green policies – whether we're knocking on doors or just with our families and friends – and it makes us pretty sad when we find misinformation has been spread about those policies with the goal of frightening people.

We're all about hope, not fear – and our local and national plans are, too.

πŸ“ˆ Green financial plans are sound because they are built to generate income. Whether we're investing in social enterprises and supporting small businesses locally, or re-nationalising energy and water companies nationally, our plans put money back in your pocket and strengthen the country's finances in the long term.

πŸ’Š Green drug policy – which is a national plan and cannot be implemented through local elections – is designed to reduce drug deaths, protect vulnerable people from drug dealers, and get drugs off our streets. It has worked in other countries, and after years of drug policy failure in the UK, it is time for a new approach.

πŸ’š We get a lot of 'loon' comments, as if our goals to combat inequality and protect our environment are somehow mad. We think it's pretty sad that people have started to consider this unrealistic, especially when the alternative is polluted water, a shrinking green belt, and fewer opportunities for everyone. That's why we focus on a message of hope. We're one of the most developed economies in the world; if we can't have hope, who can?

πŸ—ΊοΈ Greens know we need migration in order to have the workers we need, and we would always want a fair and ethical migration system where everyone feels welcome. We're also a party that encourages climate friendly travel, which means thoughtful movement, not constant movement. Any migration policy would have to be implemented at a national level – not a local level.

We can't wait to bring a little more hope to Redditch, and you can help us do that by voting Green on 7th May β˜‘οΈ

Every day, we get closer to the May 7th elections for Redditch Borough Council, and your local Greens are working harder than ever to share information that voters need.

We're delivering leaflets about councilor candidates, knocking doors to ask people in Redditch what they want for their town, and stopping to chat with new voters everywhere.

Thank you to everyone who showed us such a warm welcome today! We can really feel the Green momentum building in Redditch and we hope you loved spending time with Cllr Claire Davies for Webheath and Callow Hill, Lisa King for Batchley and Brockhill and Tim Bradley for Redditch Central Councillor as much as we do.
